During his lifetime, the late musician Trinh Cong Son wrote 301 love letters to Dao Anh since 1964. At that time, he was only 25 years old and Dao Anh was only 16 years old, a schoolgirl in Hue. Because of her admiration for Trinh Cong Son, Dao Anh often expressed her feelings and comforted the musician after her love affair with her biological sister - Ngo Vu Bich Diem, the inspiration for the famous song "Old Diem". However, the love between him and Ms. Diem was not as deep as with Ms. Dao Anh.
Trinh Cong Son's 301 letters to Dao Anh were written over a period of 37 years. The period he wrote the most was the first four years, from 1964 to 1967. Through the letters, he expressed his doubts about a happy ending between the two, believing that a breakup and suffering were inevitable. In 1967, Trinh Cong Son took the initiative to break up with Dao Anh, she moved to the US to settle down but remained a close friend of the musician and his family.
