Caravan Journey to the Preah Vihear Temple Heritage Site – Angkor

The first temple was built in the early 9th century to worship the god Shiva, and in the following centuries, artifacts found in this province indicate that the area was an important settlement of the Khmer Empire in the 12th century. Preah Vihear is a temple located on a mountaintop in the Dângrêk Mountains in Cambodia, near the border with Thailand. Half of the temple lies within Khao Phra Viharn National Park in Thailand. The OS Caravan tour will continue its exploration of the Land of Smiles with the following itinerary:

DAY 1 (August 30): HO CHI MINH - XAMAT - KOMPONG THOM - PREAHVIHEAR - 564KM

Good paved roads: Vietnam's National Highway 22, Cambodia's National Highways 7 and 6 (including 150km on the Vietnamese side).

- 05:30: The group gathers for roll call - Departure
- 6:30 AM: The group stops for breakfast (Trang Bang rice noodle soup, a local specialty), then continues its journey to Xamat Border Gate via National Highway 22, traversing Tay Ninh Province.
- 09:00: Caravan Company will pick up the group and handle exit procedures for people and vehicles at the Xamat (Vietnam) / Trapeng Plong (Cambodia) border gate.
- 10:00 AM: The group continues its journey to Preah Vihear via National Highways 7 and 6. The journey will take the group through the provinces of Kampong Cham and Kampong Thom.

- At 11:30 AM, the group stopped for lunch at Hao An restaurant in Kompong Cham, 80km from Xamat.
- Continue the journey to KomPong Thom (80km) and Preahvihear (235km). There are 80km of bad road under repair.
If time permits, the group should visit the Sambor Preykuh temple complex.
- At 5:30 PM, arrive in Preahvihear and check into a 4-star resort in Srah Em town, 20km from Preahvihear temple.
- 7:30 PM Dinner and rest
- Experience a night in the mountainous region of northern Cambodia.

DAY 2 (August 31): PREAH VIHEAR – ANGLONG VENG - SIEM REAP - 230KM
- 7:00 AM After breakfast, depart for Preah Vihear. Upon reaching the foot of the mountain (part of the Danggrek range), park your vehicle and complete the application form for visiting Preah Vihear temple.
- Transfer to 4x4 pickup trucks (5 people per vehicle) to conquer the 752m high Dangreck peak. Traveling in specialized vehicles up the mountain, visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy the thrill of climbing 6km with almost vertical slopes (therefore, the temple management does not encourage self-driving up the mountain, as it is very dangerous).
- Visit the 5 areas of Preah Vihear Temple – the most sacred temple of the Khmer people (The temple is built along a North-South axis, sloping about 120m high; 800m long; 250m wide, resembling a giant Shiva statue, corresponding to 5 parts: legs, waist, shoulders, neck, and head. It was completed over 4 dynasties, with King Yasovarman I laying the foundation and King Yasovarman II completing it. It was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2009) - Visit and present souvenirs to the soldiers protecting the temple and the Cambodian border - Take souvenir photos in front of the Khmer "holy temple".
- The tour lasts approximately 2 hours.
- Continue the journey to Anglong Veng, 90km away, and visit the border casino and border market.
- At 12:30 PM, we descended the mountain towards Anlong Veng town, the road winding through beautiful primeval forests. Upon arriving in Anlong Veng, we visited the Cambodia-Thailand border crossing and shopped at the border market.
After having lunch at a local restaurant with traditional dishes, the group continued their sightseeing tour.


* Sightseeing :
- Ta Mok Dam (an irrigation project built under the supervision of Ta Mok for the purpose of developing agriculture in Anlong Veng).
- Ta Mok (former Commander-in-Chief of the Khmer Rouge army).
- The tomb of Pol Pot (former General Secretary of the Khmer Rouge).
- Execution site: The place where the Khmer Rouge Politburo, under the leadership of Ta Mok, sentenced Pol Pot to death (Polk Pot was later placed under house arrest and died of heart disease).
- Visit the border market at Choam Border Gate (Cambodia – Thailand International Border Gate)
- Depart for Siem Reap, stopping along the way to visit a palm sugar making village and purchase local specialties.
- Arrived in Siem Reap late in the evening, checked into the hotel, had dinner, and rested.

DAY 3 (September 1st): SIEM REAP – ANGKOR (B/L/D)
The group spent the entire day driving around the Angkor complex, guided by the Tourist Police.
- Have breakfast.
- 7:30 AM Depart for a visit to Ta Prohm temple, famous for the giant roots of ancient Tung and Konia trees that have ravaged the temple over time.
- Continue your tour of Angkor Thom, the capital city – centered around the Bayon temple with its complex of 49 groups of four-faced Buddha statues, each sculpted in a unique way.
- You can stop and take photos of the temples along the way: Prerup - Srang Lake - Banteay Kdei - Takeo - the South and Northeast gates of Angkor Thom - the Royal Square (Terrace of the Elephants - Royal Enclosure - Terrace of the Lever King) - Phemeanakas - Baphoun.
- 12:00 PM Lunch.
- 3:30 PM Visit Angkor Wat (one of the Top 21 wonders of the world today)
- 6 PM: Dinner
- Watch the art performance: 7:15 PM – 8:45 PM: The special art performance SMILE OF ANGKOR at the Codex Theatre. Featuring 200 artists and performers, 3D sound and lighting, and a spectacular stage, the show recreates the history of the Khmer Empire.
- Freely explore Pub Street pedestrian area and Angkor Night Market.

DAY 4 (September 2nd): SIEM REAP – KOMPONGCHAM – BAVET - HO CHI MINH CITY 580km
- The round trip distance is 580km.
- 160km of red dirt roads are under repair, plus the asphalt road.
- Have breakfast – check out and return to the border crossing..
- 12:00 PM Lunch at Kompong Cham.
- 5 PM return to BAVET BORDER GATE – End of program.
