Capturing beautiful and heart-wrenching moments, photographer Nguyen Minh Duc's photos impress viewers with their narrative and emotional nature. The photos are not just the product of a click, but mark special emotions before beautiful moments in everyday life.
Nguyen Minh Duc is currently a freelance photographer in Ho Chi Minh City.
Travellive had a short chat with photographer Nguyen Minh Duc.
PV: Hello Minh Duc. When did you start your photography career?
NAG Minh Duc:After graduating from Da Nang University of Architecture, Duc moved to Hoi An to open a coffee shop in 2020. During the 3 years living and working here, he began to pay attention to Hoi An's architectural works, as well as the lives of the people, and then found ways to tell those stories through photography.
Duc started his passion for photography when he moved to work in Hoi An.
Duc has been involved in photography since receiving an invitation from a friend: "Duc, let's take photos of the sunset, it's so beautiful!" Up to now, Duc has been pursuing the path of photography for 3 years, although before that, he never thought he would hold a camera to take photos of the sunset. He has just started working and living in Ho Chi Minh City for half a year and officially pursued this field full-time.
PV: What is your favorite quote about photography?
NAG Minh Duc: "It's not just a photograph, it's all about capturing a moment" is the saying that Duc has kept in mind since he first picked up a camera. I pursue Street Photography, focusing on capturing everyday moments. I always want viewers to "experience" that moment, so that they can not see it directly but still feel it as if it were real life.
Duc did not study photography or attend any photography courses. His passion for photography, observation, and luck have allowed him to capture many special and genuine moments in life.

Beautiful moments of nature captured by Duc.
PV: What is the main subject of your photography? How is your approach to these subjects different?
NAG Minh Duc:The main subjects in Duc's photography are nature - people and architecture. The most difficult and interesting thing is always to photograph nature. Because if you miss just a few seconds, that moment will be gone. Meanwhile, photographing constructions - architecture is his strength.,Because everything is still. Partly because of my background as an architecture student, I know how to select the most "expensive" angles of a building. I have a more comprehensive perspective, as well as balance the composition to get the best photo. Later, when I focused on photography, I realized how meaningful my time studying at the University of Architecture was!

Some impressive architectural space images that NAG Minh Duc recorded.
PV: What equipment are you using at the moment? How do you perceive color in your photography?
NAG Minh Duc:Duc uses a Fujifilm XT3 camera with a 50-200mm lens. Color is very important in photography, besides composition, this is a special element that creates Duc's "brand". Fujifilm's color range has a very "film" feel from the beginning, after taking the photo, Duc makes further adjustments to make the color harmonious and suitable for the context and situation but still maintains the spirit of the photo.

Fujifilm's original camera colors and German editing style create unique photos.
PV: Minh Duc's photos are highly narrative, sweet and warm. What do you want to say through your photos?
NAG Minh Duc:I bring stories about simple moments in life. Those moments, in themselves, are beautiful in my eyes, because they are so real and close to everyone. The way I choose the subjects in the photos, from the small, ordinary ones to the sweet and warm color adjustments, is not only to express my personal style. But through that, I want to bring a positive feeling and hope to everyone.

Duc's photos have sweet, optimistic and positive colors.
PV: What are the stories or moments that you remember most during your 3 years of working as a photographer?
NAG Minh Duc:There are countless beautiful and impressive moments, because each photo has its own story. The story that I remember most is about 3 years ago, when a friend "invited" me to take sunset photos. At first, I was quite worried because I thought there would be nothing special. But when I got there, I was really moved by the magnificent beauty of the afternoon, the sunset stretching across the estuary, the lighthouse... That was also the moment that made me think about seriously pursuing a career in photography.

The beautiful moment when the sunset falls.
