One of the most famous scenes in the movie is the Myers house, where he murdered his family. In the movie, the house is located in the fictional town of Haddonfield, Illinois. However, the real horror movie set was in Pasadena, California.

The house is private property, belonging to the Alegria Chiropractic Center. Therefore, even if you have come to this horrifying tourist spot, without the supervision of doctors at Alegria, you cannot freely explore this place. That means you should only stop on the opposite side and take photos to check-in.

Timberline Motel in The Shining

American writer Stephen King is a horror master who was widely acclaimed in the 20th century. One of his most famous works is the novel The Shining which was published in 1977.

And just three years later, Stanley Kubrick, one of the greatest directors, adapted and produced The Shining, bringing this work to horror fans. When it was first released, the film did not receive high reviews from critics. However, not long after, when writers re-analyzed the work of the director of the century, the opinion changed.

In 2001, The Shining was ranked 26th in the American Film Institute's list of the 50 best thrillers. In 2006, the famous critic Roger Ebert, who had judged that the film had difficulty connecting the characters in The Shining, also included this film in his list of great works. He judged that The Shining was cold, scary and left many doubts about its meaning. And one of the factors that was considered to have made the film successful was the horror set in the Timberline motel.

Although Stephen King's inspiration for the Overlook is said to be the Stanley Hotel in Colorado, most of the film's horror scenes were actually filmed at the Timberline Motel. Timberline said Kubrick was asked not to film scenes in room 217 (the room number used in the book and film is 237) so that future visitors wouldn't be scared off by staying there. However, after the film was released, it became the most requested room.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show is one of the classic horror-comedy films released in 1975. And one of the factors that contributed to the success of The Rocky Horror Picture Show must be the horror film set, the mansion of Dr. Frank N. Furter.

Fans may recognize Oakley Court as the set for the mysterious Dr. Frank N. Furter's mansion, where the two main characters, Brad and Janet, go to seek help after their car breaks down in the rain.

Before filming, this place was just an empty, dilapidated castle. Now it has been renovated into a hotel with full facilities. However, many traces of the movie still remain. You can still come here to visit the horror film set of the year and can even participate in the annual event The Rocky Horror Picnic Shows.

The lighthouse in the movie The Fog

John Carpenter's second horror film, The Fog, hit theaters in 1980, just two years after Halloween. In it, Stevie, a DJ, goes to a lighthouse to host a talk show after her son shows her a piece of wood he found on a nearby beach. Strange things happen, and the lighthouse becomes a key location, where Stevie can see the fog slowly enveloping the town.

The film is set at Point Reyes Lighthouse in California, a historic structure built in 1870 for sailors. However, the lighthouse was decommissioned in 1975, so visitors can only take photos from a distance on a steep, 308-step path down to the lighthouse, which is almost always shrouded in fog - giving you the feeling of being in a movie.

Palazzo Vecchio in the movie Hannibal

If you're a fan of the cannibal doctor and are also looking to visit Italy, look no further. Florence's Piazza della Signoria is famous for being one of the busiest squares in the city and is home to a replica of Michelangelo's David, the Loggia dei Lanzi building with its wide arches topped with Corinthian columns, and the marble Fountain of Neptune. The Palazzo Vecchio, Florence's town hall, is also located in this square. In the 2001 film Hannibal, the Palazzo Vecchio was used as the setting for one of the film's most gruesome murders.

In the film, a victim of Dr. Hannibal Lecter is lured into a room in the Palazzo Vecchio, tied up and disemboweled, then hung from a balcony right next to some of the square's famous statues.

The stairs in the movie The Exorcist

The Exorcist (1973) has certainly gone down in cinema history as one of the best films in the supernatural horror genre. In the film, 12-year-old Georgetown girl Regan is possessed by a demon after playing with a Ouija board. After taking her daughter to several doctors, her mother is advised to perform an exorcism, and they meet Father Karras.

These stairs are where the climax of the film takes place; Father Karras confronts Regan's demon and is possessed by it. He commits suicide by jumping out of a window and down the stairs, killing the demon in the process.

Gas station in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was met with criticism for its violence and was banned in several countries. However, it grossed over $30 million against its limited budget of just under $200,000. The gas station is one of the film's infamous locations, despite initially appearing innocuous.

The group of friends in the film stopped here and were told that they were out of gas; they went to a nearby house to ask for help, and were almost all brutally murdered. One woman in the group tried to escape to the gas station, but she was caught and tortured by the owner of the gas station.

The actual gas station was abandoned for a while before being turned into a horror-themed barbecue restaurant called The Gas Station, filled with movie memorabilia. And if you really want to get a horror feel, The Gas Station has converted the space in the back of the house into cabins that guests can book.

Crystal Lake Diner in Friday the 13th

Whether you're a horror fan or not, most people have heard of Jason Voorhees - the serial killer from Friday the 13th - or seen his iconic mask. The first film was released in 1980 and was set in 1958 at the newly renovated Camp Crystal Lake, just a year after a young boy drowned in the nearby lake.

At the beginning of the film, one of the camp counselors, Annie, goes to the Crystal Lake Diner to ask for directions to camp. Although Annie didn't live long after that, the diner where this scene was filmed still exists and is doing well in New Jersey. Its real name is Blairstown Diner, and every Friday the 13th, fans flock there to pay tribute to the film.

Library in It

While It takes place in the fictional town of Derry, Maine, filming took place in Canada. Notably, the town of Port Hope was used to film some important Derry exterior scenes.

One of these scenes takes place at the Derry Public Library - it's where Ben writes a poem for Beverly and discovers a series of unexplained mysteries that have befallen the town, where he's chased by Pennywise, where Mike lives, and where Bill learns of Pennywise's origins... While the inside of the library is a composite of shots from other locations, its exterior is that of Port Hope Town Hall.

Nearby are other locations such as Memorial Park, where the Paul Bunyan statue was filmed; the street where the gang rides their bikes; and the delivery door where Mike is haunted by Pennywise.
