The Hue Monuments Conservation Center will organize a special program "Hue Royal Palace Mid-Autumn Festival 2025" with the highlight of completely free entrance tickets to the Imperial City area on two important nights: October 6 and October 7 (ie August 15 and 16 of the lunar calendar). This activity aims to recreate part of the traditional Mid-Autumn Festival atmosphere at the Royal Palace, while creating a unique cultural and tourist highlight, attracting visitors to the World Heritage Site on this occasion.
The main space of the activities will take place at the Interior Palace area in the Imperial Citadel, from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on October 6 and 7. This area will become a space of light art with the display and installation of hundreds of brilliant lanterns.
Hue Imperial City opens free at night to serve the 2025 Royal Mid-Autumn Festival
The most unique highlight of the event is the diverse combination of origins and styles of lanterns. Visitors will be able to admire Hue's typical lanterns, including hand-woven bamboo and rattan lanterns from the famous Bao La craft village. In addition, the space also introduces sophisticated traditional lantern works by artisans from Gifu province, Japan, creating an interesting cultural exchange. The presence of modern folding lanterns (from CAN Studio) further enriches the visual experience. This space promises to become an ideal "check-in" spot, attracting a large number of visitors to the Heritage. Visitors will move into the event area through Hoa Binh gate (for cars) or Hien Nhon gate (for pedestrians and motorbikes).
In addition to enjoying the romantic lantern space, visitors also have a rare opportunity to directly experience cultural activities and ancient royal games. These activities are held from 7:30 pm to 10:00 pm on the two nights of the event.
The elegant games of our ancestors, which only existed in history books, are now vividly recreated, including dau ho (a game of throwing spears into vases), bai vu (card game) and xam huong (pink tattoo). These activities are not only entertaining but also a way to learn history, helping participants learn more about the sophisticated lifestyle of the aristocracy and royal family during the Nguyen Dynasty. In addition, calligraphy activities are also organized, creating conditions for visitors to leave their wishes and good wishes on the night of the 15th of the 8th lunar month.
Visitors can also experience royal court games such as Dau Ho, Bai Vu, Xam Huong, calligraphy... from 7:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on the nights of October 6 and 7 (ie August 15 and 16 of the lunar calendar).
At the stage behind the Interior Ministry, the program "Royal Palace Full Moon Night" will be held with unique traditional art performances, promising to bring a cultural space imbued with Hue's identity. The fact that the entire Royal Palace Mid-Autumn Festival program is open to the public and free of entrance fees is a strong move to stimulate tourism, inviting the public and international visitors to participate in the experience.
