Having lived in Germany for over four years, Dinh Quang Hieu (from Hai Phong) is passionate about wandering through the streets to capture meaningful moments through photographs. “My inspiration stems from my passion for photography. I love traveling and exploring places with beautiful scenery, places with old towns, castles, and romantic bridges. I’ve traveled and explored many places in Germany, but I haven’t been to Heidelberg yet, so I want to discover it.”

Heidelberg, often called one of Germany's most romantic cities, is located on the Neckar River in the state of Baden-Württemberg, one of Germany's 16 states. It is the only ancient city in Germany that remained intact after World War II.

Heidelberg Castle

"During my recent trip, I was impressed by Heidelberg's beautiful and large castle. The castle boasts stunning architecture and even has a wine cellar inside," Quang Hieu said.

Nestled on a hill 80 meters above the city, Heidelberg Castle is a symbol of German Romanticism. The castle attracts countless tourists from all over the world and is one of Germany's must-see destinations.

Heidelberg Castle blends Gothic and Renaissance architectural styles. It has only been partially rebuilt since its destruction in the 17th and 18th centuries. A special highlight is the opportunity to touch the ancient castle walls and, above all, immerse yourself in the incredibly romantic scenery. From the castle, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the old city center, including the Carl Theodor Bridge, the Heiliggeistkirche church, and the picturesque Neckar River. Despite its turbulent history, the castle's beauty and poetic surroundings continue to captivate countless visitors.

Karl Theodor Bridge

Also known as the Old Bridge, the Karl Theodor Bridge is 200 meters long, nearly 800 years old, and connects the Old Town to the right bank of the Neckar River. Two spans of the bridge were destroyed by the Nazi German army, but in 1947, the bridge was rebuilt to its original state by the authorities and local people.

According to Quang Hieu, strolling along the bridge allows visitors to admire the unique architectural details carved from ancient red stone. Moreover, from the bridge, you can gaze at the gently flowing water and the picturesque city landscape.

Old town of Haupstrasse and Altstadt

Heidelberg's old town is famous for its narrow streets that crisscross the city. All the streets are paved with clean cobblestones, lined with old houses showcasing a pristine medieval architectural style…

Quang Hieu shared: "Along the old street, there are many restaurants selling German specialties and meaningful souvenirs." Therefore, tourists can easily find many delicious and famous German dishes. Typical examples include German beer and German sausages. The street becomes more lively with cultural, entertainment, shopping, and culinary activities on weekends.

Heidelberg has a maritime climate because it is located in a valley between the Palatinate and Odenwald forests. It experiences more easterly winds than usual due to year-round temperature regulation by maritime air masses coming from the west.

According to Quang Hieu, the ideal time to visit Heidelberg is during the summer and autumn. The temperature is neither too hot nor too cold, making it perfect for outdoor activities and wedding photography. In July, Heidelberg hosts many major festivals featuring food, music markets, and fireworks displays.

"Heidelberg in autumn captivates visitors with its golden leaves, the river, bridges, castles, old town, and ancient streets creating a wonderfully romantic picture," Quang Hieu shared.
