"There's no such thing as enough."
Sometimes all you need is the word "Peace."
On a sunny summer day, "One Word of Peace" was born as a haven of tranquility right in the heart of Hanoi. It is the long-cherished brainchild of Nga Lala (a resident of Hanoi), a nature and animal lover with a passion for learning about spiritual science.
Explaining the name "One Word An," Ms. Nga Lala said: "This is a very spontaneous story when I registered the trademark. I thought a lot about the name, about peace and tranquility. I really liked the name 'An' and told the person handling the registration, 'I want to register the name An, just one word, An,' but it wasn't accepted because it was already taken. Suddenly, an idea flashed through my mind, and without further thought, I decided, 'Then change it to 'One Word An' for me.' And so, the name of the restaurant was born, still maintaining the message I wanted to convey without worrying about duplication."
A place of peace and tranquility was created as a sanctuary right in the heart of Hanoi.
Finding peace and tranquility
More than just a tea shop or cafe, Một Chữ An offers a peaceful, rustic atmosphere amidst the hustle and bustle of the city. It's a haven for those seeking to immerse themselves in nature, healing their bodies and souls from the stresses of daily life.

A peaceful, rustic village setting right in the middle of the bustling city.
Located in a small alley near West Lake, the cafe is surrounded by lush greenery and flowers. The small building is covered in refreshing natural colors, creating a tranquil and peaceful atmosphere. Most notably, the cafe is situated in the middle of Xuan Dinh lotus pond; although the lotus season is over, the scenery remains beautiful and serene. Visitors can freely take photos as the cafe boasts many picturesque spots.
“What people feel when they step into An’s house is nature, freedom, and simplicity… Nature heals all wounds, and the word 'An' harmonizes the elements of the earth and sky: earth, water, sun, wind, plants, sounds, animals, and people… All aiming towards Freedom - Serenity - Balance,” shared Ms. Nga Lala.

This place has become a relaxing retreat for those who wish to immerse themselves in nature.
Menu for free spirits
Enjoy a unique space amidst the bustling city, savoring delicious food and refreshing drinks that promote health and relaxation. Perhaps the most special drink at Một Chữ An is the Freedom Flower Tea – the message the cafe wants to convey to each customer.
"We let customers freely choose their favorite teapot and teacup. Diners are free to select each type of herb and flower with their preferred scent and color. There are no rules or regulations for tea here; it's simply about freely choosing what you like for a pot of tea with a unique flavor," Nga Lala shared.

“I wanted to build a home for friends to come to. A 'Peaceful' place isn't just about drinks or products; it also has a special program called 'A Day of Peace,' with activities that help balance, relax, and connect deeply within, such as Tibetan singing bowl meditation, multi-frequency sound baths, vegetarianism, and herbal foot baths… Besides that, there are workshops for 'free spirits seeking inner peace.' Perhaps that's why every customer who comes to me becomes a friend; people call this 'Peaceful Home' rather than just a cafe,” said Nga Lala.
According to the owner of Một Chữ An (One Word Peace), because it's a new model and perhaps unlike anything else, simply doing what they like makes everything very fun and relaxed. Therefore, the cafe also faces challenges in conveying the message they want to send to like-minded people with similar interests…

Sharing her future projects with Travellive readers, Nga Lala said: “I am still gradually improving One Word for Peace and myself. One Word for Peace can become a home, a bridge helping people find peace and balance amidst the hustle and bustle of modern life through the 'One Day of Peace' programs I am building and developing with new talents.”
