Afterspecial program in JulyAllowing travelers to check in and sit on a stationary plane at Songshan Airport, Taiwanese airline EVA Air has taken the experience to the next level: a real flight in the air. The 3-hour flight takes off from Taoyuan International Airport (Taipei) and circles the sky several times before… flying back to the same airport.
As one of the eight largest airlines in Taiwan, EVA Air launched a special flight on August 8 - Father's Day in Taiwan - to help satisfy the desire to travel of the island's people after a long period of travel restrictions due to Covid-19.
"The international travel market has been stagnant for more than half a year," said a statement on EVA Air's website. "People's desire to travel abroad is growing. To meet the wishes of travelers, EVA Air decided to introduce an 'alternative travel experience' on Father's Day, August 8."
Passengers have the chance to fly on the famous Hello Kitty plane
If the weather permits, passengers can observe many beautiful sights of Taiwan including Guishan Island and the East China Sea coastline as well as the surrounding small islands.
What’s more, passengers will also fly on the famous Hello Kitty aircraft. The A330 Dreamjet has an exterior painted with Sanrio characters such as Hello Kitty, My Melody (Hello Kitty’s best friend), Kiki and Lala… Inside the aircraft, passengers will also be able to use these styled items and enjoy the entertainment system that is only available on long-haul international flights.
Another highlight of the special flight was the Michelin-starred menu created by Chef Motokazu Nakamura. The flight took off at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday and was flight number BR5288. In Taiwanese, 5288 sounds similar to "I love you, Dad."
To have your name on the flight, passengers must pay about 180 USD for economy class or an additional 34 USD for business class.
