Listing the must-visit shopping paradises in Malaysia.

23/11/2016

Visitors to Malaysia not only get to explore stunning natural landscapes and diverse culture, but also have the opportunity to shop for designer goods during three major annual sales seasons: the Malaysia Super Sale (March 1-31); the 1Malaysia Mega Sale Carnival (June 15-August 31); and the 1Malaysia Year End Sale (November 1-December 31, 2016).

Malaysia's annual shopping event kicked off on March 1, 2016. Adopting a new slogan throughout the year, "Super Deals, Amazing Experiences," the three sales events attracted a large number of Malaysian locals and international tourists to shop, dine, and enjoy leisure and relaxation during the year's best shopping season. This program was launched by the Deputy Minister of Tourism and Culture, Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin, at Nu Sentral, Kuala Lumpur. To date, Kuala Lumpur has won numerous international shopping awards, including being ranked among the top 5 best shopping destinations by Expedia UK in 2016, and among the top 2 best shopping destinations for Muslims in the OIC in 2015, according to CrescentRating and MasterCard Muslim Travel Shopping Index.

Kuala Lumpur was also ranked 4th on CNN's list of the world's best shopping cities for two consecutive years, 2012-2013. During the same period, Kuala Lumpur also ranked 2nd among the best shopping destinations in Asia-Pacific in 2012 according to the Globe Shopper Index, based in Geneva, Switzerland.

Mitsui Outlet for passengers in transit or waiting for flights.

Mitsui Outlet is arguably the most convenient shopping destination for travelers, simply because of the free shuttle bus connecting the airport and the shopping center in just 15 minutes, the convenient check-in counters where travelers can check in their luggage and print their boarding passes before starting their shopping spree, and the LED signs that allow travelers to stay updated on flight status while strolling around the center. With its affordable prices and diverse selection of goods due to its central distribution hub, Mitsui Outlet Park is the perfect place for transit travelers or busy individuals looking to grab their favorite items while waiting for their flights.

Pavilion Kuala Lumpur and fashion enthusiasts

If you're a fan of designer brands, you can't miss Pavilion KL – a shopping mall located in the Bukit Bintang area with many famous brands such as Zara, Mango, H&M, G2000, Forever21, Esprit… and especially footwear brands from international to local. This year, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur will kick off its Black Friday Sale on November 25th, 2016, with stores offering discounts of up to 70%.

If you're looking for more affordable items, you can visit shopping malls like Fahrenheit88 or Sogo KL. This year's 1MYES season, Fahrenheit88 has a STEP UP #shoeoftheday program. Just wear your favorite shoes, go to the #shoeoftheday corner, pose for a photo, upload it to social media with the hashtag, and you'll have a chance to win a shopping voucher! At Sogo KL, don't forget to shop generously to receive gifts for high-value purchases, such as beaded bags or cosmetic vouchers. And don't forget to register for an S card to accumulate points!

PE

Often referred to as the Pearl of the Orient, Penang is a blend of ancient architecture and modern shopping and entertainment, where you can find both local brands and globally renowned names. For local cuisine and festivals, you can visit Straits Quay Retail Marina or Gurney Paragon… Additionally, there's a shopping mall located in the heart of George Town called 1st Avenue, catering to luxury brand enthusiasts with its combination of retail stores, entertainment, and dining options.

Johor Bahru

Johor Premium Outlet (JPO) is the first high-end retail system in Southeast Asia, featuring 130 designer brands, from fashion to jewelry. It's a must-visit shopping destination for those on Malaysia-Singapore tours, thanks to its convenient transportation links between the two cities, which is why it attracts a large number of visitors from Singapore.

A duty-free paradise in Langkawi

Missing out on Langkawi while shopping in Malaysia would be a huge regret. This island is tax-free, making everything from chocolate, beer, wine, cigars, and kitchenware exceptionally cheap. You'll wish your suitcase were big enough to buy everything as souvenirs for family and friends.

Promotional activities of Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board in Vietnam

This year, the Malaysia Tourism Board has worked with major shopping malls in Malaysia such as Pavilion, Ferenheit88, Mitsui, and Sogo KL to obtain shopping vouchers worth up to VND 550,000 each. These vouchers will be distributed free of charge when customers purchase tours from major companies participating in the year-end sales promotion alliance in Malaysia, such as Vietran Tour, Hanoi Red Tours, Hanoi Tourists, Transviet, and Du Lich Viet.

During this same period, the Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board, along with the five aforementioned travel agencies, worked diligently with airlines offering direct flights between Vietnam and Malaysia, as well as connecting flights between Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi, such as Malindo Air, Vietnam Airlines, and Malaysia Airlines, to offer attractive prices for Vietnamese tourists visiting Malaysia during this year-end sale season. Specifically, from Hanoi, the traditional Malaysia-Singapore tour (6 days 5 nights) is being offered at VND 12,900,000, while the new Hanoi-Langkawi tour (5 days 4 nights) is being offered at a discounted price starting from VND 10,990,000. From Ho Chi Minh City, taking advantage of the shorter distance and higher flight frequency, Viet Travel is offering tours starting from VND 4,299,000 or VND 4,990,000 per person.
