New reports on tourism regulations in Venice have been published, although it is not yet confirmed when these regulations will come into effect, but are expected to be implemented between the summer of 2022 and 2023.
Day visitors will pay between 3 euros (about 80,000 VND) and 10 euros (about 270,000 VND) and will be given a receipt with a QR code. Tourists staying at hotels in Venice, as well as residents and children under 6, will not have to pay the fee.
A limit on visitor numbers has also not been confirmed, although the city is currently facing pre-pandemic levels of 80,000 visitors a day, according to a report in August.
In response, city authorities are increasingly turning to other tourism restrictions, with large cruise ships banned from the city's waterways, while many tourists have been fined for breaking rules such as sunbathing on steps or eating a meal outdoors.

Earlier this year, the city of Venice launched a Smart Control Room to track visitor activity during their stay, hoping to control the number of visitors during peak season. Inside the Smart Control Room, the number of visitors in Venice will be tracked by working with telecommunications provider TIM, and information about where visitors are coming from will also be made clear by finding out the country in which their phone number is registered.
According to The Times, the tracking methods include: surveillance cameras, optical sensors that track movement along with a phone tracking system to check all phone SIM cards in the city. Tracking SIM cards will alert authorities when large numbers of tourists gather in hotspots across the city, and they can intervene and redirect tourists to less crowded locations.
