Those planning to go see the cherry blossoms are likely to spend an average of 6,872 yen (over 1.1 million VND) per person, down 0.9%, although the number of people expected to go is said to be higher than last year, according to a survey by Tokyo-based marketing firm Intage.
The online survey, conducted with 2,500 people aged between 15 and 79 in February, found that about 57.8% said rising prices had affected their behavior, forcing them to take cost-saving measures, including reducing spending on cherry blossom viewing trips or refraining from such trips altogether.
With a target of 60 million domestic tourists by 2030, the Japanese government is working to attract more repeat visitors and promote lesser-known destinations. The aim is to avoid overtourism and help revitalize dwindling communities.
