Unilateral visa exemption for 8 European countries temporarily suspended.

On the afternoon of March 9th, the Prime Minister concluded a meeting of the Government Standing Committee on COVID-19 prevention and control, accordingly, Vietnam will temporarily suspend unilateral visa exemptions for eight European countries, and will restrict large gatherings unless absolutely necessary.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc affirmed that the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic has entered a new phase and emphasized that "Vietnam has the capacity, resources, spirit, and experience to control the disease."

The Government's Standing Committee meeting on COVID-19 prevention and control was held on the afternoon of March 9th.

Accordingly, the Prime Minister agreed to temporarily suspend the unilateral visa exemption for eight European countries: Denmark, Norway, Finland, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Spain; and to restrict meetings and large gatherings unless absolutely necessary. The Prime Minister also agreed with the recommendation of the Steering Committee of ministries, sectors, and localities to temporarily refrain from sending officials abroad for study or work, except in special cases with the permission of the Prime Minister.

Hanoi announced its first case of COVID-19 on the evening of March 6th.

The Prime Minister requested the Steering Committee, the Ministry of Health, other ministries, sectors, localities, hospitals, health centers, organizations, businesses, and individual households to develop or update existing plans and scenarios to ensure readiness for action.
