Unilateral suspension of visa exemption for 8 European countries

On the afternoon of March 9, the Prime Minister concluded a meeting of the Government Standing Committee on Covid-19 prevention and control, stating that Vietnam will temporarily suspend unilateral visa exemption for eight European countries and limit unnecessary large gatherings.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc affirmed that the fight against the Covid-19 epidemic has entered a new phase and emphasized that "Vietnam has enough capacity, resources, spirit and experience to control the epidemic".

Accordingly, the Prime Minister agreed to temporarily suspend unilateral visa exemption for 8 European countries including Denmark, Norway, Finland, Sweden, UK, Germany, France and Spain; at the same time, limit meetings and large gatherings... if not necessary. The Prime Minister also agreed to the proposal of the Steering Committee of ministries, branches and localities to temporarily not send officials to study or work abroad except in special cases with the Prime Minister's permission.
