Given the complex developments of the epidemic in South Korea, the Middle East, and Europe in recent days, the Prime Minister requested the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to inform South Korea and other countries experiencing outbreaks about Vietnam's epidemic prevention measures – including temporarily suspending entry for people arriving from or transiting through affected areas. Those entering Vietnam for official purposes or special circumstances will be required to declare their health status and undergo 14 days of centralized quarantine.
The pandemic situation in Europe is becoming increasingly tense: Italy recorded 94 new cases (bringing the total to 323), and three more European countries have reported cases of the virus.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises Vietnamese citizens not to travel to areas affected by the epidemic, except in necessary cases; if they still travel, they must undergo 14 days of centralized quarantine upon re-entering Vietnam. The Ministry also urges Vietnamese citizens living and working in South Korea to comply with the epidemic prevention guidelines of the local authorities. Specifically, Vietnamese citizens in areas affected by the epidemic in China are only allowed to return to Vietnam through international border crossings. Vietnam will continue to strictly control the movement of people across the border via unofficial routes and openings.
The Prime Minister instructed the Ministry of Health to organize centralized quarantine at medical facilities for suspected cases and other cases. The Ministry of National Defense was tasked with preparing facilities, equipment, reception areas, accommodation, etc., for centralized quarantine of people arriving from epidemic areas, but the density of quarantine in border provinces must be reduced to ensure no cross-infection.
Thorough disease prevention measures are being implemented at airports.
The Ministry of Public Security is responsible for notifying the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Health, and local authorities about people entering Vietnam from epidemic areas for quarantine. All flights from epidemic areas in South Korea will be diverted to land at Van Don Airport (Quang Ninh province), Phu Cat Airport (Binh Dinh province), and Can Tho city.
Citizens of countries with outbreaks (including unaffected areas within those countries) are required to make a mandatory health declaration upon entering Vietnam.
The Prime Minister also noted that Vietnam has achieved important initial results in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, which have been highly appreciated by the international community and the people. To date, all 16 cases of coronavirus infection in Vietnam have been cured; one suspected case is being isolated and monitored; and 6,470 people who are in good health are still in isolation due to contact with suspected cases.
