Although it's not yet the peak summer season, domestic airfares have already increased significantly, with flights from Hanoi to Phu Quoc even more expensive than traveling to Thailand. Even on routes with high flight frequency, such as Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City, tickets are not cheap on weekends.
According to a survey by Travellive, the price of tickets for the Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City route, departing on April 30th and returning on May 3rd (during the holiday period), has increased sharply, with round-trip tickets on Vietnam Airlines costing 4 million VND including taxes and fees.
Although the holiday season is only a little over 1.5 months away, many people have already booked domestic flights well in advance, causing prices on some routes to start rising.
As for flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Hue, according to the above flight schedule, the cheapest round-trip airfare is currently 5 million VND from Vietnam Airlines.
Meanwhile, flights to popular tourist destinations like Phu Quoc, Da Nang, Nha Trang, and Quy Nhon are quite expensive compared to normal days.
A survey conducted on March 15th showed that for the Hanoi - Phu Quoc route, on April 30th, passengers would have to pay from 4.186 million VND per one-way ticket with Vietnam Airlines. Bamboo Airways had a similar price of 4.197 million VND per ticket, while Vietjet Air had the lowest price at 3.464 million VND per ticket. For the return trip on May 3rd, passengers would have to pay at least 3.7 million VND per ticket with Vietjet Air. Flying with Bamboo Airways during peak season for this route, passengers would have to pay 4.2 million VND per ticket.
For another route, Ho Chi Minh City - Quy Nhon, during the same period, Vietnam Airlines is selling one-way tickets for nearly 2.5 million VND for economy class, and Bamboo Airways for nearly 2.4 million VND. The Hanoi - Da Nang route is also priced at 2.5 million VND for a one-way ticket.
For those wishing to travel to Nha Trang, passengers from Hanoi currently have the cheapest one-way flight option at 2.1 million VND with Vietjet Air. Other options include Bamboo Airways (2.8 million VND) and Vietnam Airlines (3.6 million VND). For passengers from Ho Chi Minh City to Nha Trang, Vietnam Airlines tickets are priced at 1.931 million VND per ticket.
As the holiday approaches, airfare prices will increase significantly due to the growing demand for travel. Because of high demand, very few economy or business class tickets will be available close to the holiday, even though round-trip fares have increased.
In fact, the high price of domestic airfare has forced many people to change their holiday plans for the upcoming April 30th holiday. Instead of traveling far, many have opted for closer destinations that can be reached by car or private vehicle.
