Discover Ly Son Island – The Kingdom of Garlic

09/05/2014

Ly Son Island is known for its fine white sandy beaches, turquoise waters, and coral reefs, making it ideal for tourists who enjoy scuba diving.

Ly Son, also known as Cu Lao Re, is located in the northeast of Quang Ngai Province, 15 nautical miles from the mainland. Since ancient times, it has been famous as the "Kingdom of Garlic," the birthplace of the Hoang Sa (Paracel) Islands' heroic troops – a living museum of territorial sovereignty over the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa (Spratly) Islands.

The island is the remnant of a volcano with five craters, formed 25-30 million years ago. Hot springs at the foot of the volcano provide thermal energy to generate electricity for daily life in Ly Son.
