Mongolia opens its doors to international tourists.

17/02/2022

From February 14th, Mongolia officially opened its borders, allowing vaccinated international tourists to enter the country, after two years of strict anti-epidemic measures that led to the country's isolation.

The Mongolian cabinet has passed a resolution to lower the "COVID-19 readiness status" from orange to yellow, thus lifting restrictions related to business activities. This downgrade also means the country of 3 million people will fully open its borders, resuming international travel.

Mongolian Prime Minister L. Oyun-Erdene also announced the lifting of all Covid-19 restrictions (except at border posts), with only vaccination remaining, and recommended that people wash their hands, wear masks, and maintain social distancing to protect themselves.

"If fully vaccinated, tourists and investors are welcome to Mongolia without any further requirements. Unvaccinated visitors are also welcome in Mongolia and will be vaccinated here if they are eligible," said L. Oyun-Erdene.

The reason the Mongolian government is rushing to reopen internationally is that currently, 92% of Mongolian adults have been fully vaccinated, with 52% of priority groups receiving their third dose and 90,000 Mongolians having received their fourth dose. Mongolian officials also affirm that the country is a safe destination for tourists.

Previously, since November 2022, strict restrictions had brought exports and goods transportation in Mongolia to a standstill, forcing many businesses and schools to close. This prompted Mongolia to quickly implement a "New Recovery Policy" to mitigate the damage caused by Covid-19 and revive the economy.
