Photographer Preet Uday (India) wandered around Dubai to capture peaceful and nostalgic photos in one of the world's most modern and wealthy cities.
Most photographers love to capture images that show the wealth and modernity of Dubai, one of the fastest-growing cities in the world. The usual images are skyscrapers, world-class constructions or supercars appearing all over the streets. However, Preet Uday is not one of them. The 46-year-old Indian photographer wants to capture the simple moments that come naturally in Dubai.
Photos taken by Indian photographer Preet Uday of Dubai from new angles:
Dubai in the impression of many tourists is a convenient, luxurious city with skyscrapers, luxury shopping centers. This world's leading modern metropolis also has dreamy corners with idyllic scenery.
These peaceful corners were captured by photographer Preet Uday during his daily walks around the city. CNN described the Indian photographer's photos as evoking a view of Dubai with gentle beauty.
Uday captures a moment of silence in a city that is constantly evolving. Uday shares his photos of Dubai's past landscapes.
"I grew up in the 1990s. My subconscious is influenced by that era and I express that influence through my current artistic perspective," says Preet Uday
One of Uday's familiar "characters" is vintage cars. The beauty of the past that appears in Uday's photos is vintage cars around Dubai city. The Indian photographer admits that he is not a car enthusiast. But with an artistic eye, he feels that old cars have a strange attraction.
Nostalgic photos make tourists surprised that Dubai also has old corners and timeless objects, not just supercars or skyscrapers.
Preet Uday said his passion for taking these nostalgic photos was sparked during the Covid-19 pandemic that gripped the world. Spending "unusually quiet" days in the bustling city inspired Uday to capture ordinary, everyday moments imbued with a sense of nostalgia.
"During the pandemic, when everything was closed, I had a lot of free time to walk around the city and capture quiet street corners through pictures. My first pictures posted on social networks received a lot of attention. After two years, the number of people liking my pictures has increased day by day," said Preet Uday.
The photographer said the difference in his photos lies in the color palette, the minimalism in the background. Uday's photos are all film-colored but he actually recorded them all with a digital camera. Many of the photos were even taken with a phone.
Uday said that before taking pictures of any location, he will spend a few days walking around that area to find out the color rules and learn about the rhythm of life there.
“This approach makes my photos more intimate,” says Uday.
