Indian photographer Preet Uday wandered through Dubai, capturing peaceful and nostalgic images of one of the world's leading modern and wealthy cities.
Most photographers prefer to capture images showcasing the wealth and modernity of Dubai, one of the world's fastest-growing metropolises. Common images include skyscrapers, world-class constructions, and supercars everywhere. However, Preet Uday is not one of them. The 46-year-old Indian photographer wants to capture the simple, natural moments of Dubai.
These images, captured by Indian photographer Preet Uday, offer unique perspectives of Dubai:
Dubai, in the eyes of many tourists, is a city of convenience and luxury, with skyscrapers and upscale shopping malls. However, this leading modern metropolis also has dreamy corners with tranquil scenery.
These tranquil corners were captured by photographer Preet Uday during his daily strolls around the city. CNN describes the Indian photographer's images as evoking a gentle beauty in Dubai.
Uday captures moments of tranquility in a city that is constantly evolving. Uday shares his photos of Dubai landscapes that have a nostalgic feel.
"I grew up in the 1990s. My subconscious was influenced by that era, and I express that influence through my current artistic perspective," said Preet Uday.
One of Uday's familiar "subjects" is classic cars. The beauty of the past is revealed in Uday's photographs of classic cars around the city of Dubai. The Indian photographer admits he is not a car enthusiast. But with an artistic eye, he feels that old cars have a strange appeal.
These nostalgic photos surprise visitors, revealing that Dubai also has old corners and timeless objects, not just supercars or skyscrapers.
Preet Uday says his passion for taking these nostalgic photos was sparked during the Covid-19 pandemic. Experiencing the "unusually quiet" days in the once bustling city inspired Uday to capture ordinary, everyday moments tinged with a bygone era.
"During the pandemic, when everything was closed, I had a lot of free time to wander around the city and capture quiet street corners through photographs. My first photos posted on social media received a lot of attention. After two years, the number of people who like my photos has increased," Preet Uday said.
The photographer says the difference in his images lies in the color palette and the minimalist setting. Uday's photos all have a film-like color scheme, but he actually captured them all with a digital camera. Many were even taken with a phone.
Uday said that before photographing any location, he would spend a few days walking around the area to find the patterns of color and understand the rhythm of life there.
"This approach makes my photos more relatable," Uday said.
