Under the new regulations, foreign travelers will have to present proof of full vaccination before boarding a flight to the US, have a negative Covid-19 test result within three days of their flight, and provide their full contact information.
The US will open both its land and air borders, and will also allow travelers to enter the US via ferry. Those who meet the eligibility criteria will not need to quarantine. This is an opportunity for many families on both sides of the Atlantic to reunite after nearly 20 months of separation due to US entry restrictions.

The reopening of land borders will proceed in two phases. In the first phase, starting November 8th, vaccinated travelers can enter the US for tourism or to visit relatives. Those who have not been vaccinated can still enter the US for essential travel, a policy that remained in place until the country reopened. Phase two will begin in January 2022, from which point onwards, all travelers entering by land will be required to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
The country's opening of its borders has led to thousands of migrants traveling to areas along the border between the United States and Mexico, hoping to take advantage of relaxed regulations to gain entry into the US.

The border closure order, issued by former President Donald Trump in March 2020, applied to most areas of the world. Even travelers from neighboring countries like Canada and Mexico were banned from entering.
