Painter Ngo Chuong (1994, Quang Nam) graduated from Hue University of Arts with a major in painting. After graduating, the male artist did all kinds of art-related work, from painting on conical hats, fabric fans, murals, cafe decoration paintings, reliefs... It was not until early 2023 that he started to return to his "pure" creative work. He chose acrylic and oil paint as the main materials in his paintings.
According to the male artist, drawing is also a way to directly contact the subject, character or landscape he chooses.
Capture moments in visual form
Direct drawing is drawing directly, right on the scene using a realistic brush with a theme chosen by the artist. The way the artist expresses himself will awaken the creative inspiration inherent at that very moment.
This form of painting requires the artist to observe carefully and feel the color that best suits the space. At each moment, the scenery can change differently, sometimes in the blink of an eye. Strong emotions and rich brushwork will directly awaken the inherent emotions inside the artist and act as a catalyst to deepen the sense of composition, shape and color from landscape paintings.

Talking to Travellive, artist Ngo Chuong shared: “When I first started working outdoors with paintings in the form of direct drawing, I began to think about how to work from small-sized paintings to control the space and composition in the painting. Next, it is to create the premise for larger and more dramatic paintings later. Continuously working every day, investing hours of time to create the most complete work possible. To do this, it is necessary to maintain the habit of practicing painting regularly and without interruption.”
Direct drawing is different from drawing by imagination in terms of space, time and light. In particular, direct drawing trains and cultivates the ability to perceive, color and brushwork before the object or phenomenon that the artist is drawing, thereby bringing many sources of inspiration in creation.

Landscape painting through the perspective of artist Ngo Chuong
“There are many landscape themes that I find beautiful, which are rivers. Some examples include Tuy Loan River, Qua Giang River, Han River, Huong River... In my journey of creating direct paintings, I was impressed with the view from Vong Canh Hill (Hue) and the special highlight is the Huong River lying shyly at the foot of the hill,” said artist Ngo Chuong.
The male artist's journey of creating through direct drawing is associated with countless memories. All the paintings are drawn directly expressing sincerity through the author's perspective from real trips. Starting to draw the endless fields in summer, the afternoon sun along the Tuy Loan River or the lyrical nature of the Qua Giang River... bring a feeling of peace and tranquility. Besides, there are also many sounds and scenes in life from the countryside to the city, all of which make the male artist himself think more about the creative journey.

“There are many difficulties in creating paintings. For me, the ideological theme in the painting is an important factor,” the male artist affirmed.
Breathing in the comfortable, free atmosphere, relaxing the soul into colors and lines. Directly viewing the scenic spots through trips, creating paintings with diverse colors, lines, shapes, and forms are what artist Ngo Chuong wants to experience through the form of direct drawing.
“My current story of creating live paintings still has many things ahead. My path of practicing painting is inherently not smooth, so for me, creating is a continuous practice process. Choose the path of passionate creation and consider it your own happiness, overcoming thousands of difficulties and hardships, sweat and tears," artist Ngo Chuong shared more.
