Artist Ngo Chuong (born 1994, Quang Nam) graduated with a major in painting from Hue University of Arts. After graduation, the male artist worked in all kinds of art-related fields, from painting on conical hats and fabric fans, murals, cafe decorations, and relief sculptures. It wasn't until early 2023 that he returned to purely creative work, choosing acrylic and oil paint as his main materials.
According to the male artist, drawing directly is also a way to directly interact with the subject, character, or landscape he chooses.
Preserving moments through live art.
Direct painting is painting directly on location using a realistic brushstroke, with the artist choosing their own subject matter. The artist's style of expression will awaken the inherent creative inspiration at that particular moment.
This form of painting requires the artist to observe very carefully and sense the most appropriate colors for the space. The scenery can change at any given moment, sometimes in the blink of an eye. Strong emotions and a rich brushstroke will directly awaken the artist's inherent feelings and act as a catalyst for deepening their understanding of composition, form, and color in landscape paintings.

In a conversation with Travellive, artist Ngo Chuong shared: “When I started working outdoors with live paintings, I began thinking about working with smaller paintings to control the space and composition. This was to lay the groundwork for larger and more dramatic works later on. I continuously worked every day, investing hours to create the most complete artwork possible. To achieve this, I needed to maintain a regular and uninterrupted painting practice.”
Direct drawing differs from drawing based on imagination in terms of space, time, and light. In particular, direct drawing trains and refines the ability to perceive, use color, and apply brushstrokes to the objects or phenomena the artist is drawing, thereby providing a wealth of inspiration for creative work.

Landscape paintings through the eyes of artist Ngo Chuong
“There are many landscape subjects that I find beautiful, especially rivers. These include the Tuy Loan River, the Qua Giang River, the Han River, the Perfume River... During my creative journey in live painting, I was particularly impressed by the view from Vong Canh Hill (Hue) and the special highlight was the Perfume River nestled at the foot of the hill,” said artist Ngo Chuong.
The artist's journey of creating art through direct painting is intertwined with countless memories. All the paintings, created directly, express sincerity through the artist's perspective from his real-life travels. Beginning with endless fields in summer, the afternoon sun along the Tuy Loan River, or the lyrical nature of the Qua Giang River... they evoke a sense of peace and tranquility. Alongside these, there are many sounds and scenes from life, from the countryside to the city, all of which make the artist reflect even more deeply on his creative path.

"There are countless difficulties in creating a work of art. For me, the thematic content of the painting is the most important element," the male artist affirmed.
Breathing in the fresh, free air, letting one's mind wander through colors and lines, and directly observing scenic landscapes during travels, while creating artworks with diverse colors, lines, shapes, and forms—these are the experiences that artist Ngo Chuong desires through the art of live painting.
"My current journey in creating live paintings still has much ahead. My path in painting practice has never been smooth, so creating is a continuous process for me. Choose the path of passionate creativity, consider it your own personal happiness, and overcome countless difficulties and hardships, sweat and tears," artist Ngo Chuong further shared.
