Known as the “Tiaki Promise”, the campaign encourages visitors to experience New Zealand through “sustainable travel”, demonstrating practical actions that help protect the natural environment, preserve and respect the unique culture of this country. This is believed by the New Zealand government to raise awareness among visitors, protect and preserve the beauty of New Zealand for the present and the future.

Sharing with the press, Chairman of the Local Government Council Dave Cull said: “Tourism is one of the major sources of revenue for the development of the national economy. However, tourism development without a specific direction will more or less impact the natural environment and the country's unique ecosystem. We hope that building tourism campaigns will raise awareness of local and international tourists, thereby improving the quality of tourism and people's tourism thinking.”

Quoting a senior official in the New Zealand tourism industry, the “Tiaki Promise” campaign reminds people to participate in tourism activities responsibly, from simply disposing of trash in the right place, driving safely, or exploring natural landscapes in a civilized manner.

The “Tiaki Promise” tourism campaign will be communicated to tourists from the moment they apply for a visa to New Zealand as well as throughout their stay in the country in four languages, including English, German, Chinese, and the native language Te Reo Maori. At the same time, this campaign also encourages tourists to share their positive actions and deeds through social networks, with the hashtag #tiakipromise.

The “Tiaki Promise” tourism campaign is a joint tourism promotion effort by major organizations operating in the New Zealand tourism sector, including Air New Zealand, Tourism New Zealand, the national conservation unit, local state governments…
