Evening river bus trips are one of the latest efforts of Saigon Waterbus to popularize public river transport, experience the beauty of the Saigon River, bring the river closer to urban life and bring city dwellers closer to nature.
With a section of the river on the route of water bus route No. 1, from December 10, 2021, Saigon residents and tourists can easily experience the Saigon River on weekday evenings on water buses connecting Bach Dang wharf, District 1 and Binh An wharf, Thu Duc City.
River buses offer people a civilized and healthy option for relaxation after stressful working hours with a ticket price of only 15,000 VND/trip.
The Saigon River flows along the city, marking historical memories from the pioneering period to the bustling boats, then witnessing the construction of bridges and skyscrapers. The river buses are therefore not simply trips between locations, but also like a journey through time, through the past, present and future of the City.

As a photographer, Mr. Ngo Duc Nguyen has chosen to travel by river bus between his workplace in District 1 and his home in Thu Duc 3 times. “The first trips were very exciting for me, but the return trips mostly made me seasick and easily made me feel sad. But the evening bus with a selected route on the most beautiful river section brings a new experience of the river and the city when the sun sets. Rivers inherently bring romantic, quiet feelings in a vast landscape of only sky and water. With the nature of my current job, this is what I need to give my mind a break before going home to completely rest.”
Many people are extremely excited about the experience of watching the sunset on the Saigon River.
After watching videos and photos shared by friends on social networks, Ms. Truong Thi Trang, currently a student, eagerly invited her brother to try the night river bus experience to see the sunset horizon and the city lights on the river.
“I didn’t think I could meet so many young people my age and eat and drink comfortably on the boat. The air on the river is fresh, unlike on the road, even at night there is a lot of dust and traffic stress. At each different stop, I can also see different city views. Witness the changes of the city along both sides of the river for several kilometers for only 15 thousand. There is hardly any experience more affordable for students.”
In parallel with enhancing services to people in the evening, Saigon Waterbus is proactively promoting cooperation with the elite creative community to enrich people's experiences on the Saigon River. This is a long-term community cultural project to enhance people's understanding of the city's culture, art and history through the initiatives of the young Vietnamese community, contributing to improving the quality of life of city residents not only in terms of facilities but also in terms of spiritual life. Activities will take place on many scales and in diverse forms, interwoven into the river bus experience journey, with the vision of transforming community life in the most positive and natural way.
