The evening river bus trips are one of Saigon Waterbus's latest efforts to popularize public river transport, allowing visitors to experience the beauty of the Saigon River, bringing the river closer to urban life, and connecting city dwellers with nature.
With a section of the river on the route of water bus line number 1, from December 10, 2021, Saigon residents and tourists can easily experience the Saigon River in the evenings on weekdays on water buses connecting Bach Dang Wharf, District 1 and Binh An Wharf, Thu Duc City.
These river bus trips offer people a civilized and healthy option for relaxation after a stressful workday, with tickets costing only 15,000 VND per trip.
The Saigon River flows through the city, preserving historical memories from its early days to its bustling waterways, and witnessing the formation of bridges and skyscrapers. Therefore, river bus journeys are not simply transportation between locations, but rather a journey through time, encompassing the city's past, present, and future.
The beauty of the city as seen from the Saigon River.
As a photographer, Ngo Duc Nguyen has traveled by river bus three times between his workplace in District 1 and his home in Thu Duc. “The outbound trips were always exciting, but the return journeys were mostly seasick, easily leading to feelings of sadness. However, the evening bus, with its carefully selected route along the most beautiful stretch of the river, offered a fresh experience of the river and the city as the sun set. The river inherently evokes romantic and tranquil feelings in its vast expanse of sky and water. Given the nature of my current work, this is exactly what I need to give my mind a break before returning home for complete rest.”
Many locals are extremely enthusiastic about the experience of watching the sunset on the Saigon River.

After watching videos and photos shared by friends on social media, Truong Thi Trang, currently a student, eagerly invited her brother to try the evening river bus experience to admire the sunset horizon and the city lights from the river.
“I didn’t think I’d meet so many young people my age and enjoy a relaxing meal on the boat. The air on the river is fresh, unlike on the road, which is often smoky, dusty, and congested with traffic even at night. At each stop, you can admire different cityscapes. Witnessing the city's transformation along the river for just 15,000 VND is hard to find a more budget-friendly experience for a student.”

Alongside enhancing evening services for the public, Saigon Waterbus is proactively fostering collaboration with the elite creative community to enrich the experience of people on the Saigon River. This is a long-term community cultural project aimed at improving people's understanding of the city's culture, art, and history through the innovations of young Vietnamese people, contributing to improving the quality of life for city residents not only in terms of infrastructure but also spiritual well-being. Activities will take place on various scales and in diverse forms, interwoven into the river bus experience, with the vision of transforming community life in the most positive and natural way.
