On the morning of September 21st, the chairman of the People's Committee of Thong Nguyen commune, Hoang Su Phi district, Ha Giang province, confirmed that a tragic incident had occurred in the area. The incident took place in the early morning of September 19th at a Hoang Su Phi bungalow in Nam Hong village, Thong Nguyen commune. The victim was a 29-year-old woman from Hanoi.
Hoang Su Phi is located in Ha Giang province.
According to the local leader, the victim had been in the area with a tourist group for a few days. In the early morning of September 19th, while she was sleeping, she was raped by Trieu Ta Menh (born in 1991, of the Dao ethnic group, residing in the area).
"I've been wandering around since I was little, without a stable job. I'm a cousin of the homestay owner. The suspect was often hired to work as a motorbike taxi driver for tourists," the chairman of the commune's People's Committee said. The Hoang Su Phi district police are investigating the case.
