The Tran Temple Seal Opening Ceremony (Ninh Binh) has long been an important tradition in the hearts of Vietnamese people every time Tet (Lunar New Year) comes around. Entering the year of the Horse 2026, the excitement of this traditional festival is not only due to its age-old cultural values but also to groundbreaking changes in its organization. The time for distributing seals to locals and visitors from all over will begin at 2:00 AM on the 15th day of the first lunar month, significantly earlier than the usual 5:00 AM.
This year's festival will run from February 27th to March 4th (corresponding to the 11th to 16th days of the first lunar month). Extending the duration of the festival, combined with moving the seal distribution time earlier, is expected to alleviate traffic pressure and reduce local congestion, a persistent problem for decades. The Head of the Relic Management Board emphasized that the appearance of the Tran Temple complex this year has undergone a significant transformation, with expanded and more spacious areas, creating favorable conditions for implementing security measures at the highest level.
Opening the seal at Tran Temple to pray for a year of national prosperity and peace for the people and the world.
Looking back at history, overcrowding and pushing during the seal-opening ceremony have always been a concern for authorities and visitors alike. However, during this year's Spring Festival (Year of the Horse), the organizing committee proactively established a system of barriers to manage traffic flow and arranged scientifically organized pathways right in front of the seal distribution points. Separating the flow of people entering and exiting not only makes the seal-receiving process more civilized but also ensures absolute safety for the elderly and children participating in the pilgrimage. This meticulous preparation demonstrates a modern management mindset, aiming for a safe and fulfilling spiritual tourism experience, where every citizen can leisurely pay their respects at the temple without worrying about chaos.
According to the agreed-upon ritual schedule, spiritual activities will be conducted solemnly and respectfully. Specifically, on the night of January 14th, from 9 PM to 9:30 PM, the organizing committee will clean the inner sanctuary and ask locals and tourists to leave the grounds to prepare for the incense offering and the procession of the sacred palanquin.
This is an ancient custom at the Tran Dynasty's Ancestral Temple (formerly Thien Truong Palace) with profound humanitarian significance: praying for national peace and prosperity, a peaceful and flourishing world, and for all families to share in the blessings of the Tran Temple – "Accumulating Boundless Blessings" – and entering the new year with good health, enthusiastic work, and success in studies and work.
The most sacred moment is at 11:15 PM, when the official seal-opening ceremony begins amidst the solemn and dignified atmosphere of spring. After the traditional rituals conclude, instead of waiting until dawn as in previous years, at exactly 2:00 AM on the 15th day of the first lunar month, the doors distributing the seals will open wide to welcome the first stream of people.
This custom not only contributes to preserving and promoting the values of cultural heritage but also upholds the nation's tradition of building and defending the country, demonstrating the principle of "drinking water, remembering the source."
The Tran Temple Seal Opening Ceremony is not just about receiving blessings and good fortune; more profoundly, it is a convergence of the glorious spirit of the Dong A era. It's an opportunity for future generations to reflect on the heroic history of the Tran dynasty – a dynasty that defeated the Mongol invaders three times, protecting the integrity of the nation's borders. The processions and rituals not only reenact the past but also serve as a vivid historical lesson about the principle of "drinking water, remembering the source." Through this, the festival contributes to fostering national pride, educating the younger generation about patriotism, and instilling in them the responsibility to preserve the precious intangible cultural heritage of their ancestors.

The 2026 Tran Temple Seal Opening Ceremony promises to present a new image: more professional, more civilized, while still preserving its inherent spiritual identity.
