The Muong Lo Cultural and Tourism Festival and the Exploration of the Mu Cang Chai Terraced Rice Fields National Scenic Area is a unique cultural and tourism product of Yen Bai province that has been held for many years. Organized in Nghia Lo town and the districts of Mu Cang Chai, Van Chan, and Tram Tau in Yen Bai province, the festival always attracts a large number of tourists because of its profound humanistic values and the beautiful, majestic, and unique scenery of the province.
5,000 people performed the traditional Xoe dance at the festival's opening ceremony.
On the evening of September 20th, the festival was inaugurated at Nghia Lo Town Stadium. A highlight of the opening night was a spectacular artistic program themed "Essence from Legends," elaborately staged, combining the creativity of artists with 3D mapping technology on LED screens. The program showcased the rich cultural heritage of the Northwest provinces, featuring renowned singers such as Tung Duong, My Lam, Thu Hang, and the Vietnam National Opera and Ballet Theatre.

The most special and impressive part of the "Essence from Legends" program was the performance of the Thai Xoe dance - a spiritual symbol with unique folk cultural values, showcasing the vibrant vitality and unity of the ethnic communities of Northwest Vietnam, attracting the participation of 5,000 artisans and amateur performers from Nghia Lo town and Van Chan district (Yen Bai province).
5,000 people performed six traditional Xoe dances, forming shapes resembling the bauhinia flower and terraced rice fields – a specialty of Yen Bai province.
Recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage since 2015, Thai Xoe dance is currently in the process of completing its dossier to be submitted to UNESCO for recognition as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity.
Community cohesion, solidarity, and love are all expressed through the Xòe dance – as guests join in the dance, holding hands and laughing joyfully together. These images make people love even more the warm, hospitable, and culturally rich land of Yên Bái.
"Flying over the golden season" in Mu Cang Chai
Taking place over two days, September 21-22, in Lim Mong village, Cao Pha commune, Mu Cang Chai district, the 2019 "Flying over the Golden Season" paragliding festival attracted thousands of domestic and international tourists. This was a highlight of the series of events in the Muong Lo Culture and Tourism Festival and the Exploration of the Mu Cang Chai Terraced Rice Fields National Scenic Area.

With the theme "Twin Flight Performance," visitors witnessed paragliding demonstrations and impressive tandem flights by pilots. The performance, organized by over 100 pilots from Vietnam and abroad, including the Vietwings Yen Bai Paragliding Club and other domestic and international paragliding clubs, aimed to provide visitors with the opportunity to experience, explore, and appreciate the majestic beauty of the Khau Pha valley with its shimmering golden terraced rice fields.

Khau Pha Pass is one of the longest mountain passes in the country, over 1,200 meters above sea level, with a takeoff point approximately 600 meters above the landing point. With its natural terrain, wind conditions, and especially during the golden rice harvest season, it has become an attractive paragliding spot. Many domestic and international pilots consider Khau Pha Pass to be one of the most beautiful paragliding locations in the world.

Besides paragliding to satisfy your passion for this adventurous sport and explore the beauty of the terraced rice fields from above, Khau Pha Pass also hosts many other activities such as: exhibitions of Mong flutes performed by local artisans; displays and introductions of books, paintings, and photographs; food stalls and stalls selling local products...
