On August 5th, Mayor Stefano Miserocchi ordered the evacuation of nearly 70 people, mostly tourists, living at the foot of Mont Blanc, and blocked all roads leading to the Val Ferret valley, following warnings that the Planpincieux glacier on Mont Blanc (in northeastern Italy) was at risk of breaking due to global warming. Evacuation and security measures were urgently implemented by civil defense and law enforcement forces.
