Sleeping in a tent, immersing yourself in nature.
I still remember our trip to Ta Xua, the "Dinosaur's Backbone" (Son La). Our plan was to find a house belonging to a Hmong ethnic minority in the poorest village, with everything at the most basic level.

After exploring Ta Xua to our heart's content, we looked down from a high vantage point and saw a village in the valley below. We even chose a house nestled right in the middle of the valley. The journey down to this house was quite tiring because the path was narrow and slippery.

But in return, during this season, the rows of flowers planted along the roadside bloom in a sea of white, making Chung Chieng village more beautiful than ever.

At night, after a very enjoyable dinner, the chirping of insects began to fill the air like a symphony. Sleeping in the valley, surrounded by towering mountains, the feeling was indescribable… a mixture of bewilderment, slight fear, and delight. After laying out a thick blanket as a mattress, we spread out our sleeping bags. After the tiring journey that morning, plus a little corn wine, everyone slept better than usual that night.homestaythe night before.
Life is simple here.Photo: Nguyen Huu Bao
At dawn, our host, Pao, was already up. His eldest daughter had turned on the radio, playing a Hmong love song. Pao's wife was busy cooking noodles with leftover rice for the children to eat, then some would go to school, others would take the buffaloes out to graze… Meanwhile, we were sitting brushing our teeth next to the buffalo shed. We boiled water, brewed tea, and drank it amidst the thick mist of the mountains and forests. Life here was so simple and lovely that it made us temporarily forget the hustle and bustle of city life.

Mr. Tran Anh Tuan, a camping enthusiast living in Ho Chi Minh City, shared: “Because I’ve traveled so much, now I just want to go somewhere with beautiful, cool scenery, pitch a tent, and stay there for a long time to enjoy nature. The campsite must meet at least two criteria: it must be far from residential areas and have a good environment.”view"Spacious like mountains, forests, streams, waterfalls, fields..."

For Tuan, one of his favorite camping spots is Da Lat. Here, he can ride his motorbike up any hill and enjoy the consistently cool air. “I once pitched my tent in one spot for seven consecutive days. That time, the weather was absolutely perfect; it would drizzle lightly in the afternoon, and the nights were calm so I wouldn't feel too cold. In the morning, nature would bless me with a spectacular sea of clouds.”

A night just me and... the tentPhoto: Tran Anh Tuan
For Thuy Lan (from Nha Trang), an unforgettable experience sleeping in a tent was camping with a group on the beach of Cu Lao Cau, a pristine island in Binh Thuan province, during the April 30th holiday. Lying in the tent at night, listening to the gentle sound of the waves, and peeking out to gaze at the sea, all she saw was an endless expanse of black, a feeling of fear.

As dawn broke, the beauty of the sea seemed to compensate for all the anxieties of the night before. "It's wonderful and peaceful to suddenly see the image of two lovers practicing yoga together on the beach."
Another person who also enjoys this type of travel commented: "Tents are very addictive. Sometimes, when I don't have the opportunity to travel, I have to entertain myself by pitching a tent at home to play with my children, going in and out, just like I'm on a trip somewhere!"
For families, camping in tents is one of the most unforgettable memories for children. All that nature offers is fresh air, stunning scenery, and glimpses of wildlife, as well as evenings illuminated by countless stars. Nature provides children with authentic, vivid experiences that they can perceive with their own senses. Therefore, to spark any child's interest, try inviting them on a camping trip. It's a priceless gift for a child's memories and a wonderful way to strengthen family bonds.

THINGS TO DO AND NOT TO DO WHEN CAMPING/GLAMPING
Even when you're in a beautiful location, choosing a campsite requires adhering to certain principles and mastering essential skills, as suggested below.
DO NOT
- Avoid the very bottom of valleys or canyons, where the air will be coldest and excessively humid.
- Avoid camping near animal foraging paths or dens, to prevent unwanted visitors in the middle of the night!
- Stay away from dangerous areas such as floodplains, flash floods, and waterlogged grasslands; maintain a safe distance from streams, rivers, lakes, and the sea.
SHOULD
- Find a safe and convenient location for daily life.
- Choose a place sheltered by natural materials such as leaves; lying on sand, or clean soil will conduct less heat than other materials.
- Under or next to something like a tree, large rocks will block the wind and reduce radiant heat.
- Avoid the risk of flooding from groundwater because if it rains, moisture can easily seep through the tent floor.
- Ensure the tent pitching area is safe and protected from wind.
- Mark the campsite and provide identifying features for all participants to prevent them from getting lost.
- Maintain general cleanliness in the campsite. Follow principles for protecting nature and the environment.
