Archipelago Group enters the Vietnamese hotel market.

11/05/2022

As one of the largest independent privately owned hotel management groups in Southeast Asia, in partnership with Optimum Hospitality, Archipelago International will officially enter the Vietnamese market under the brand Archipelago Indochina.

On the afternoon of May 9th in Hanoi, Archipelago, a private hotel management group, announced its official entry into the Vietnamese market with the brand Archipelago Indochina.

Archipelago Indochina has secured five contracts for managing room distribution channels and revenue for four hotels in Ho Chi Minh City and one hotel in Phu Quoc. From booking tools to revenue returns per room, the property management services under the "Powered by Archipelago" brand are designed to increase online revenue by up to 260%.

Archipelago Indochina will be led by two experienced professionals: CEO John Gardner, former General Manager and CEO of Caravelle Saigon Hotel from 2007 to 2021, and COO Martin Koerner, former Director of Marketing and Commercial at The Anam and Alma resorts in Cam Ranh.

Norbert Vas, Vice President of Development at Archipelago International, said: "Archipelago connects independent hotels and hotel groups with its system, automating the distribution process and connecting with over 3,000 partners. We leverage long-standing relationships and agreements with online travel agencies (OTAs), and train and manage their booking teams."

Furthermore, Mr. Norbert Vas emphasized that Archipelago is currently negotiating to launch management services with its first partners and aims to manage 18 resorts and hotels in Vietnam within the next three years. In particular, Archipelago is confident in its competitiveness through flexibility and the application of technology in management and sales. He also noted that the Vietnamese market has experienced two strong growth spurts in the hotel service sector and anticipates this will be the third major growth spurt after the Covid-19 pandemic.

The current time is considered extremely favorable for Archipelago to enter the Vietnamese market because the hotel industry is facing many difficulties in terms of personnel and management after a long period of disruption and delays. Therefore, investors tend to carefully choose partners with expertise that can help them manage hotels more efficiently and save costs.

Archipelago Indochina also helps Archipelago International expand into Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos, with turnkey service management contracts for hotels up to 1,000 rooms, soft brand management contracts, and franchise agreements.

John Gardner shared: “What we at Optimum really like about Archipelago is its focus on the numbers. Archipelago's philosophy, which is also our philosophy at Archipelago Indochina, is first and foremost about achieving profitability. That is the foundation of everything else.”

The Archipelago Group operates over 150 hotels under brands such as Aston, Collection by Aston, Alana, Huxley, Kamuela, Harper, Quest, Neo, fave, Nordic, and Powered by Archipelago.
