Archipelago Group enters Vietnam hotel market

11/05/2022

As one of the largest independent private hotel management groups in Southeast Asia in partnership with Optimum Hospitality, Archipelago International will officially enter the Vietnamese market under the brand Archipelago Indochina.

On the afternoon of May 9, in Hanoi, the private hotel management group Archipelago announced that it will officially enter the Vietnamese market with the brand Archipelago Indochina.

Archipelago Indochina has secured five channel and revenue management contracts for four hotels in Ho Chi Minh City and one hotel in Phu Quoc. From booking engines to revenue yield per room, the Powered by Archipelago property management services are designed to increase online revenue by up to 260%.

Archipelago Indochina will be led by two experienced professionals: CEO John Gardner, former General Manager and General Manager of Caravelle Saigon Hotel from 2007 to 2021, and COO Martin Koerner, former Director of Marketing and Commercial of The Anam and Alma resorts in Cam Ranh.

“Archipelago connects independent hotels and hotel groups to our system, automates distribution processes and connects with over 3,000 partners. We leverage long-standing relationships and agreements with online travel agencies (OTAs), and train and manage their booking teams,” said Norbert Vas, Vice President of Development at Archipelago International.

In addition, Mr. Norbert Vas also emphasized that Archipelago is currently negotiating to deploy management services with the first partners and the goal is to manage 18 resorts and hotels in Vietnam in the next 3 years. In particular, Archipelago is confident in competing with flexibility and applying technology in management and sales. He also commented that the Vietnamese market has had 2 strong growth waves in hotel services and this is expected to be the 3rd largest growth wave after the Covid-19 pandemic.

The current time is considered extremely favorable for Archipelago to enter the Vietnamese market because the hotel industry is facing many difficulties in terms of human resources and management after a long period of interruption and delay. Therefore, investors often tend to carefully choose partners with expertise to help them manage hotels more effectively and save costs.

Archipelago Indochina also helps Archipelago International reach Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos, with full-service management contracts for hotels up to 1,000 rooms, soft brand management contracts, and franchises.

“What we at Optimum really like about Archipelago is the focus on numbers,” said John Gardner. “The philosophy of Archipelago, which is also our philosophy at Archipelago Indochina, is first and foremost to be profitable. That is the foundation of everything else.”

The Archipelago Group operates more than 150 hotels under brands such as Aston, Collection by Aston, Alana, Huxley, Kamuela, Harper, Quest, Neo, fave, Nordic and Powered by Archipelago.
