The baby rhinoceros recently born at Vinpearl Safari Phu Quoc is a "baby girl" weighing over 60 kg, belonging to the African white rhinoceros species – one of the five rare rhinoceros species still existing in the world, scientifically known as Ceratotherium simum simum. This birth was exceptionally fast, with the mother rhinoceros giving birth in just 15 minutes after going into labor. Less than 45 minutes later, the baby rhinoceros was able to nurse on its own, demonstrating strong neonatal health and survival instincts.
Winnie is breastfeeding.
Born quickly and smoothly at a crucial moment when the entire country was entering a decisive battle against the Covid-19 pandemic, the baby girl was named Winnie, meaning "Victory." Through this name, Winnie embodies joy, life, optimism, and hope for Vietnam and all of humanity's victory over the pandemic. She will be the 27th member of the herd and the 4th rhino born in Vietnam in over a decade.
Typically, the birth rate of African white rhinos recorded in conservation parks is very low.
Vinpearl Safari has become one of the few conservation parks in the world to welcome three newborn white rhinos within a single year.
Vinpearl Safari Phu Quoc currently boasts the largest herd of white rhinos in Vietnam, with superior care and conservation conditions in the region. In addition, other Vinpearl Safari facilities have continuously become the "birthplaces" for many animal species, such as: 4 African white lions (February 29, 2020); 2 spotted deer and 3 white tigers (February 14, 2020)...
