The baby rhino born at Vinpearl Safari Phu Quoc is a “baby girl” weighing more than 60 kg, belonging to the African white rhino species - this is one of the 5 rare rhino species still existing in the world, with the scientific name Ceratotherium simum simum. This birth had a “rare speed” when the mother rhino gave birth after only 15 minutes of labor. Less than 45 minutes later, the baby rhino was able to breastfeed, demonstrating newborn health and strong survival instinct.

Born quickly and smoothly at a special moment when the whole country is entering the decisive battle against the Covid-19 pandemic, the baby girl was named Winnie, meaning “Victory”. Through that, Winnie is sent joy, life as well as optimism and hope for the victory of Vietnam and all humanity against the pandemic. She will be the 27th member of the herd and the 4th rhino born in Vietnam in over a decade.
Normally, the birth rate of African white rhinos recorded in conservation parks is very low.
