Representatives from Thailand's Ministry of Finance announced a new stimulus package to boost domestic tourism by giving each Thai citizen 1,500 baht to travel within Thailand's 55 provinces. All Thais aged 18 and over can register for the program. The government will then deposit 1,500 baht into their electronic payment accounts. Citizens can then use the electronic payment card at participating stores.

Representatives from the Ministry of Finance revealed that the Ministry has collaborated with the Ministry of Tourism & Sports and Krung Thai Bank on a campaign to promote domestic tourism in Thailand. The campaign has a budget of 15 billion baht and is scheduled to begin in July 2019. It is expected that approximately 10 million Thai citizens will register to participate. All detailed plans for the promotion campaign have been submitted to the Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand, Somkid Jatusripitak, for approval.
The Thai economy is being severely impacted by a decline in exports. Exports in March fell 4.88% year-on-year, and in the third quarter, they declined 1.64% due to the global economic slowdown and trade tensions between the US and China. This domestic tourism promotion campaign will contribute to the overall growth of the Thai economy.
