Tokyo is one of the most densely populated cities in the world. Many people often think that it is not a safe place to live, but in fact, Tokyo has been recognized as the safest city in the world for many years.
The "Safest Cities Index 2019 Report," presented at the Safe Cities Conference organized by The Economist in Singapore, noted that Tokyo possesses a range of strengths, including low crime rates (both serious and minor), well-designed infrastructure to withstand natural disasters, and a low risk of malicious computer software.

This report, dating back to 2015, ranks cities based on 57 criteria across four areas: digital safety, health safety, infrastructure safety, and personal safety.
This year, Tokyo leads in the digital safety category, but ranks second behind Osaka in health safety, fourth in infrastructure safety, and also fourth in personal safety.
Ranked second, after Tokyo, is Singapore with 91.5 points. The city leads in personal safety and infrastructure safety, ranks second in technical safety, and eighth in health safety.
