10 amazing things not to be missed when coming to Singapore

19/05/2019

As the mighty lion city of Southeast Asia, Singapore is a must-visit destination for any traveler. Whether you are an adventurer, urban explorer, or a foodie, Singapore can satisfy and win your heart right from the first visit.

Immerse yourself at Gardens By The Bay

One of the most famous landmarks in Singapore, Gardens By The Bay's unique landscape instantly evokes an "alien" setting. Its most prominent feature is the Supertree Grove - 18 vertical man-made "supertrees" in the garden, with the tallest tree standing at nearly 20 storeys tall! The best time to visit the Supertrees is at night when they are lit up and give off a magical glow. Gardens by the Bay offers free entry every day from 5am to 2am.

To Pulau Ubin Island

Pulau Ubin is a small island northeast of Singapore. Devoid of skyscrapers and cars, the island is a reminder of what Singapore was like a few decades ago – a truly untouched island. It is also home to one of Singapore’s last remaining traditional villages, and the people who live there lead a simple life supported by fishing and farming. To make your visit to Pulau Ubin memorable, rent a bicycle to explore the entire island, learn about the German Girl Shrine and other remnants of old Singapore here. To get to Pulau Ubin, take a ferry from Changi Point Ferry Terminal.

Get wild at Singapore Zoo

First opened in 1973, the Singapore Zoo spans nearly 70 acres and is home to over 300 species of animals. Highly regarded for its design and its choice of an “open” enclosure model that loosens the restrictions of keeping animals in regular cages or chains, the zoo is wildlife-friendly and at the same time stimulates the curiosity of visitors. To help visitors roam around the grounds, it offers a variety of transportation options, including trams and boats. For a more unique experience, visit the zoo after dark, when the Night Safari program begins, to get a chance to observe and learn how many animals are nocturnal.

Explore strange neighborhoods

Much of Singapore’s richest heritage is found in its cultural districts: Chinatown, Little India and Arab Street. Take a guided tour around Little India with the National Heritage Board, where you’ll get to experience the religious diversity of the area, and queue for a plate of Michelin-starred chicken rice. Meanwhile, in Arab Street, you’ll get to enjoy Mediterranean food, smoke shisha and watch the evening people-watching.

Soar over the jungle MacRitchie Treetop Walk

If you’re feeling adventurous, head to MacRitchie Reservoir to experience the heights of the forest on the MacRitchie Treetop Walk. This is a 250-metre long bridge, 25 metres above the forest floor.
