You can travel along the road affectionately named "Happiness Road" to feel the immense joy of the local people. Stretching from Ha Giang City, Quan Ba, Yen Minh, Dong Van, and finally Meo Vac, this road evokes a range of emotions in travelers, from joy and excitement to fear, grandeur, and pride.
Along that road are magnificent natural landscapes rarely seen in other countries. The journey, traversing forests and mountains to altitudes of thousands of meters at a speed of 20 km per hour, further emphasizes the hardships faced by the people here. During the trip, visitors also understand why this land is known as the "Stone Plateau." The word "plateau" evokes images of endless lush green forests, but here, all one sees is the white expanse of "rock." The people living here must adapt to nature, cultivating crops that can withstand the scarce water conditions, such as corn and potatoes.
The locals here always make use of the scarce hillside land to cultivate crops, creating beautiful, colorful "terraced rice fields". Visiting Ha Giang in late September or early October, you will encounter ripening rice fields on these magical terraced fields. In October and November, visitors can enjoy the buckwheat flower season, a flower unique to this region.
Of course, these are not the most interesting things about Ha Giang. There is still the Lung Cu flagpole (a sovereignty marker), the mansion of the most talented man in this arid land, "Vuong Chi Sinh," or one of the four great mountain passes of Vietnam, "Ma Pi Leng."
