Symbol of Vietnamese culture
The conical hat is an image that is all too familiar to the Vietnamese people, appearing in poetry, art and even daily life, bearing a rustic yet profound beauty. In this event, Cultra Taproom chose the conical hat as the first theme to launch its series of cultural exhibitions.
A representative of the Organizing Committee shared: "This is not only a way to tell the story of a traditional handicraft product but also an opportunity to convey the message that the simplest things are the most precious, worthy of being preserved and spread." This is a special cultural event, taking place from November 30 to December 8 at 30 Hang Da, Hoan Kiem, Hanoi, bringing a new perspective on the conical hat - from its traditional beauty to its application in modern life.

The exhibition brings visitors closer to the process of making a conical hat – a journey that requires meticulousness through many stages. From drying leaves, splitting leaves, ironing leaves, to sewing the hat and the hat waist, each step bears the mark of a skilled craftsman. In particular, sewing the hat is considered the most difficult stage, requiring high skills and dexterity. The stitches must be short, even, and the joints must be hidden, so that the finished hat is not only beautiful but also durable. Coming to “Flowers Under the Hat Brim”, you will witness with your own eyes the artisans of Chuong village performing each step, helping you understand more deeply the labor value behind this familiar product.

Unique exhibition space
Cultra Taproom is fortunate to have a special exhibition space – a 100-year-old house in the heart of Hanoi. Although it has existed for a century, the house still retains traditional architecture mixed with a modern breath. This is the perfect place to recreate the beauty of the conical hat in a cultural and historical context.
Each conical hat has its own story, representing the diversity of Vietnamese culture across regions.

The exhibition area not only introduces familiar types of conical hats, such as Chuong village palm leaf hats, but also includes many other unique types of hats such as Hue's palm leaf hats, bamboo hats, hand-embroidered hats and brocade hats. Each hat has its own story, representing the diversity of Vietnamese culture across regions. In particular, the exhibition also combines decorative images with themes of Vietnamese history and art, taking visitors on a fascinating journey of cultural exploration.
Not only displaying conical hats, the exhibition also combines the art of flower arrangement to highlight the main message. “Flowers Under the Conical Hat” symbolizes the artist’s hands, the sunlight on the tilted head, and the flowers in the soul of the Vietnamese people. This combination not only creates a beautiful artistic space but also evokes the spirit of creativity, connecting tradition and modernity.

In addition, here, visitors can decorate the mini conical hats by themselves by attaching charms through the DIY (Do It Yourself) area, creating a unique souvenir with a strong personal touch. This activity not only attracts participants but is also a way to spread the image of the Vietnamese conical hat to many places, especially the Gen Z generation - young people who are always looking for novelty and creativity in traditional values.

In particular, this is also an opportunity for the conical hat - a familiar cultural symbol - to be brought closer to the younger generation, so that they can see that traditional culture is not old but always vibrant and creative.
After this exhibition, Cultra Taproom promises to continue to bring other meaningful cultural events. "It could be stories about traditional craft villages, typical dishes, or other symbols of Vietnamese culture. Each event is an effort of the Cultra team to preserve and spread cultural values closer to the community" - the representative of the Organizing Committee shared.
