In 1995, when Christian Moullec noticed that wild geese often had difficulty migrating from Germany to Sweden, he sought to help them. Whenever the weather was good, he would fly up with the flock of birds.

Originally a meteorologist, the Frenchman Christian Moullec was not a pilot at all, but he was inspired by an Austrian zoologist – dubbed the "goose walker." Moullec adapted a two-seater ultralight aircraft to fly alongside vulnerable species, guiding them on their migration flights.
For almost a year now, Moullect has been undertaking an ambitious project: taking tourists into the sky to fly with birds. From March to October, when the weather is good, tourists can experience a 15-hour flight and a 35-minute self-piloting session with Moullect. From above, they can admire castles, deserts, bridges, cities, and mountains, sometimes even reaching distant locations like Edinburgh, Scotland, Venice, and Italy.

Who are his customers? What will they experience?
My clients come from all over the world and are all kinds of people, especially Europeans. Flights inspire in me a great respect for nature and I can convey this respect to my clients.

There are also people with disabilities and those who want to experience a wonderful time in the sky with birds before leaving this world. This moves me; perhaps the most beautiful thing is flying in the sky with angelic birds.

When did he start flying with birds?
In 1995, I wanted to fly with little white geese into the wild in Lapland [northern Sweden]. At first, this was very difficult for me. The birds didn't want to follow me.

Can you share some of your favorite stories about flying with birds?
I absolutely loved the amazing flight with 33 white geese from northern Sweden to southwestern Germany. My wife was on board, and she was five months pregnant at the time; we were expecting our first son. The journey lasted five weeks. We hope to continue making other migrations to make the white goose project in the wild a success.

What did he do when he flew in the air with the birds?
We fly over beautiful valleys, near Europe's largest ancient volcano [Plomb du Cantal]. When there are clouds, we fly above them. I also enjoy taking pictures of these flights. This is an opportunity for me to testify about the disappearance of migratory birds in Europe due to the use of chemicals in agriculture.

One-third of wild bird species have disappeared from Europe over the last 30 years, because of humans. This is a disaster. My beautiful images of birds in flight should be used to speak to this issue.

The famous French writer Victor Hugo said that beauty is more useful than utility, so I hope that these beautiful images of my birds in flight will be useful to migratory birds and humans.

My beautiful photos with birds in flight should be used to address this issue.
