On The Reel Film Lab is a short film production course organized by UNESCO in collaboration with the Center for Supporting and Developing Cinematic Talent (TPD) - Vietnam Film Association. The course takes place in October and is led by director Pham Ngoc Lan and producer Pimpaka Towira.
There were 100 submissions, and 6 projects were selected to participate in the course. Each project received individual mentorship from instructor Pham Ngoc Lan or guest speaker Truong Minh Quy. Following this, producer Pimpaka Towira shared insights into the international film industry and film production skills. At the end of the course, participants presented their projects, and three outstanding projects were awarded prizes.
Mr. Christian Manhart, Head of UNESCO's Representative Office in Vietnam, delivered a speech at the closing ceremony.
The On The Reel Film Lab is organized to support young filmmakers in gaining an overview of Vietnamese and world cinema, international film festivals, and filmmaking trends. Through the course, young filmmakers improve their skills and professionalism, learn about production processes, and receive advice from experienced filmmakers.
