1. Hinohara

Located in the west of Tokyo, Hinohara is famous for its 4-tiered waterfall that is nearly 60m high and the Tokyo Citizen's Forest. As this picturesque village is mostly covered by forests and mountains, it is an ideal stop for hikers and nature lovers.

But that’s not all! The roofs of the traditional houses here are shaped like Japanese warrior helmets, which is very unique. And when you get hungry, head to the local cafes to enjoy typical dishes while soaking up the breathtaking valley views.

2. nagatoro

The thatched-roof houses here date back to the Edo period, and the old farmhouses have now been turned into shops and souvenir shops. The Ōuchi-juku huts, where many Edo-era samurai stayed, are also a must-see. And since Ōuchi-juku is located in the mountains, if you visit in the winter, you'll definitely have an unforgettable experience with snowflakes.

5. magome
