Alma Resort provides in-home training for staff during the pandemic.

While many hotels faced staff departures due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, Alma Resort found ways to retain employees with advanced skills training courses conducted at home before they returned to work.

Specifically, Alma Resort began collaborating with Typsy, an online hospitality academy established in Australia, to enhance the professional skills of hundreds of employees after the resort was forced to temporarily close due to the fourth wave of the pandemic.

Herbert Laubichler-Pichler, General Manager of Alma Resort, said that partnering with Typsy is one of the resort's efforts to "do everything possible" to encourage and retain staff in the context of the pandemic, which has caused significant damage to the tourism industry.

“The partnership with Typsy Academy will elevate our efforts by creating a peer-to-peer online learning model and building a continuous learning environment to enhance our staff’s skills. These investments demonstrate our seriousness about retaining and developing our workforce, especially as they are on unpaid leave due to the temporary hotel closure,” he said.

“It’s noteworthy that there have been many digital solutions to help combat COVID-19-related issues in the ‘new normal’; a prime example is the Alma Resort mobile app we developed to maximize contactless communication between guests and staff,” Herbert added.
