The Nature Conservancy is an international organization dedicated to nature conservation, addressing climate change and protecting the marine environment, with a presence in 72 countries. Each year, the Nature Conservancy holds an annual photo contest to encourage people to be aware of the natural world around them.
This year, more than 100,000 entries from 150 countries were sent to the Nature Conservancy. There were a total of 5 award categories: Wildlife, People in Nature, Cities and Nature, Water, and Landscape. The work that won the highest prize in the People in Nature category belonged to a Vietnamese author. That was photographer Le Van Vinh with a photo titledDance on the sea.
In the photo, fishermen at Hon Yen (Phu Yen) are casting their nets on the sea, creating an image that resembles a gorgeous evening gown. Perhaps that's why it's called "Dance on the Sea".
The award-winning photo, "Sea Lion," was captured by American photographer Tyler Schiffman in Monterey Bay, California.
The People's Choice Award went to Sarira Santora's Wanayo Falls, located in Wasior, West Papua, Indonesia.
The moment a storm arrives in Varadero (Cuba) by author Giovani Cordioli (Brazil) won an honorable mention in the category People and Nature.
The Golden Bridge (USA) hidden in the mist is the winning work in the Cities and Nature category. The author is an American named Jay Huang.
Second prize in the same category was won by a photo of a small city at night in Georgia, taken by Ukrainian photographer Yevhen Samuchenko.
A snow-covered mountainside with a lone skier is the first prize winner in the Landscape category. This image was taken in Slovenia by photographer Colin Ronald (Austria).
Flamingos fly over the Magadi Salt Lake in Kenya. This second-placed photo by Hao Jiang from the United States won the Water category.
