Temperatures dropped sharply, and frost began to form around the summit of Fansipan on the night of December 20th. By 6:00 AM on December 21st, a layer of ice about 2 cm thick had covered the wooden decks and railings on the summit and the surrounding vegetation.
According to Mr. Nguyen Xuan Chien, Director of Sun World Fansipan Legend tourist area, the lowest temperature during the night was -9°C.oC. At the summit of Fansipan, the temperature these days ranges from 5 to 15 degrees Celsius.oTemperatures rise during the day and drop well below 0.oC at night.
Frost typically occurs during the winter months, from November to February. This is the fourth time this year that this phenomenon has been recorded on the roof of Indochina, but the frost is more abundant and thicker than usual.

"This year's ice and snow appeared earlier than in previous years," said Giang Seo Nha, a security guard who has worked in the mountain area for four years. This year, the first frost arrived in late October.
Nghiem Hung, a resident of Sapa, said the weather has turned cold in the town but there is no frost yet. Temperatures are between 2 and 8 degrees Celsius.oC, foggy weather with drizzle.
