As the busy summer travel season comes to an end and the weather cools, fall has emerged as one of the most ideal and suitable times of the year to book a dream getaway, according to Conde Nast Traveler. And for American travelers, this fall seems to be the season many are eager to venture far from home.
"The surge in searches for destinations like Munich, Ho Chi Minh City and Barbados shows that travelers are excited to pack their bags and visit places that were previously difficult to reach due to travel restrictions, testing requirements or high airfares," said Christie Hudson, head of public relations for Expedia's US market. "Now that most Covid-19-related travel restrictions have been eased, these destinations are back and even more attractive due to factors such as favorable dollar-to-euro exchange rates and seasonal travel deals."
Ho Chi Minh City is one of the most memorable destinations in autumn.
The seven destinations mentioned by Conde Nast Traveler are Ho Chi Minh City, London, Punta Cana, New York, Munich, Albania and Barbados. Ho Chi Minh City is the only Asian destination mentioned. According to Conde Nast Traveler, Asia is seeing a surge in interest this fall as more countries open their borders.
Priceline has reported that searches for flights to the continent have more than quadrupled this fall. Kayak reports that Vietnam’s largest city has seen a 46% increase in searches compared to 2019, while Expedia reports a 630% increase in searches compared to last fall.
“The news that Vietnam would reopen its borders to foreign tourists on March 15 brought immediate excitement,” said Ms Hudson. “Ho Chi Minh City is very affordable in the autumn months so a reasonable amount of travel money will go a long way.” She also noted that she found five-star hotels in September and October starting at around $50 a night.
While the climate here is warm year-round, autumn marks the end of the rainy season when temperatures cool and is a good time to visit city landmarks such as the Cu Chi Tunnels, Notre Dame Cathedral and Ben Thanh Market.
