According to Gogobot, 2.5 million Gogobot users voted for Barcelona, the capital of Catalonia, located on the Mediterranean coast, as their top destination for summer 2013. And among the many attractive entertainment types here, the Festa Major de Grazia festival held every August attracts more than 1 million participants.
Lonely Planet, the world's largest travel book and guidebook publisher, described the event as a cross between a giant exhibition and a large-scale outdoor rock concert. The list is based on the popularity of the destinations, millions of opinions and comments from visitors, and from the ratings of members of the online travel community among 412 destinations in 38 different travel markets around the world.
And while Prague in the Czech Republic and Cape Town in South Africa jumped seven places in this top list, Siem Reap in Cambodia fell 14 places.
In addition, new destinations appearing in TripAdvisor's fifth list include Venice, Italy, Bangkok, Thailand, Tokyo, Japan, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and St. Petersburg, Russia.
With millions of people accessing the TripAdvisor network, Europe remains the world's tourist paradise, with seven of the top 10 destinations in 2013 taking the top three spots. The remaining three spots are New York (second place), San Francisco (seventh place) and Sydney, Australia (tenth place).
Every month, there are more than 200 million visits to the TripAdvisor network and more than 100 million opinions and comments related to travel issues are expressed on the TripAdvisor website.
