According to the Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority, booking rates on domestic routes remained at a low to average level during the period from June 15 to July 15, 2024, despite entering the peak summer season of 2024.
However, booking rates varied between days and routes. On days leading up to the weekend (June 15-17), booking rates on some routes connecting tourist destinations reached higher levels, exceeding 50%. For example, the Hanoi - Quy Nhon route achieved 80.7% booking rate on June 15 and 72.5% on June 16. The Hanoi - Phu Quoc route also reached 74.9% on June 15. However, on other routes, booking rates only fluctuated between 20% and 40%.
Airfares are reduced at the start of the peak travel season.
Flights depart between 1:00 PM and approximately 2:30 PM, primarily on tourist routes to and from Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Da Nang, Hue, Vinh, Nha Trang, Hai Phong, etc.
The Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority has confirmed that Vietnamese airlines are currently offering various fares for domestic flights, many of which are significantly lower than the regulated maximum fare for basic economy class.
This offers many benefits to customers, allowing them more choices of ticket prices to suit their needs and financial capabilities, as well as making it easier to find cheap tickets when booking early or during off-peak seasons. In particular, it fosters competition among airlines, allowing consumers to benefit from special promotions and discounts. Airlines also need to improve their services and optimize costs to compete more effectively, thereby creating a healthy competitive environment and maximizing benefits for consumers.
With its international flight network, Vietjet has doubled the frequency of flights between Nha Trang and Busan (South Korea) to 14 round-trip flights per week, opened new routes Hanoi-Melbourne on June 3rd, Hanoi-Sydney from June 8th, and increased frequencies on many international routes to meet the increased demand during the summer.
Overseas flight tickets are also highly sought after by many tourists.
Vietnam Airlines, the national airline of Vietnam, is increasing the number of flights operating after 9 PM daily on routes between Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Nha Trang, Quy Nhon, etc., to provide more options for passengers amidst reduced capacity due to the engine recall.
Vietjet Air's night flights during this period increased by 46% compared to normal, equivalent to approximately 3,100 night flights across its entire network. In the summer of 2024, Vietjet will provide an additional 1.4 million tickets, equivalent to a 35% increase in domestic supply capacity, to serve tourists on domestic travel routes.
With rising airfares becoming a hot topic in public opinion recently, airlines have been striving to find solutions to alleviate the situation. One solution to lower airfares is to increase the number of night and early morning flights.
