Unexpectedly, airfare prices "cool down" during the peak summer season

17/06/2024

Currently, Vietnamese airlines are applying many different ticket prices for domestic flights, many of which are significantly lower than the maximum price prescribed by the Ministry of Transport.

According to the assessment of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, the booking rate on domestic flights remains at a low average level in the period from June 15 to July 15, 2024, even though it has entered the peak summer season of 2024.

However, the booking rate varies between days and routes. On days close to the weekend (June 15-17), the booking rate on some routes connecting tourist destinations from localities is higher, over 50%. For example, the booking rate on the Hanoi - Quy Nhon route reached 80.7% on June 15 and 72.5% on June 16. The booking rate on the Hanoi - Phu Quoc route also reached 74.9% on June 15. However, on the remaining routes, the booking rate only fluctuated at 20% - 40%.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has confirmed that Vietnamese airlines are currently publishing a wide range of fares for domestic flights, many of which are significantly lower than the maximum fares set for basic economy class.

This brings many benefits to customers, allowing them to have more choices of fares to suit their needs and financial capabilities, as well as easily find cheap fares when booking early or during the low season. In particular, this promotes competition between airlines, helping consumers benefit from special promotions and discounts. Airlines also need to improve services and optimize costs to compete more effectively, thereby creating a healthy competitive environment and bringing maximum benefits to consumers.

Regarding the international flight network, Vietjet doubled the flight frequency between Nha Trang and Busan (South Korea) to 14 round-trip flights per week, opened new routes Hanoi-Melbourne on June 3, Hanoi-Sydney from June 8 and increased the frequency on many international routes to serve the increased demand during the summer.

International air tickets are also sought after by many tourists.

Vietnam Airlines operates and sells additional late-night flights after 9 p.m. every day on routes between Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Nha Trang, Quy Nhon, etc. to provide more options for passengers in the context of reduced supply due to the impact of engine recall.

Vietjet Air's night flights this time increased by 46% compared to normal, equivalent to about 3,100 night flights across the entire flight network. In the summer of 2024, Vietjet will provide an additional 1.4 million tickets, equivalent to a 35% increase in domestic supply capacity to serve tourists on domestic tourist routes.

As the rising airfares have become a hot topic in recent times, airlines have been trying to find solutions to cool things down. One of the solutions to reduce airfares is to increase the number of late night and early morning flights.
