Local authorities are taking measures to prevent price gouging during the holiday season.

Tourist destinations not too far from major cities, such as Cat Ba (Hai Phong), Ha Long (Quang Ninh), Sam Son (Thanh Hoa), Da Nang, and Hoi An, are currently packed with thousands of visitors during this year's holiday season.

This holiday also witnessed a boom in cultural, artistic, and tourism events organized extensively in many provinces and cities nationwide, attracting a large number of visitors. To ensure safety and prevent price gouging, localities intensified inspections, ensured safety, and established hotlines.

Nationwide event explosion

In Hanoi, there are many activities that attract a large number of tourists, such as the opening of a new pedestrian street in Son Tay.Hanoi Tourism Gift Festival 2022, eventGiving gifts to tourists at Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum.In addition, Cao Bang province inaugurated the 2022 "Tourism to the Roots" program and the 2022 Do Son Tourism Festival, themed "Colors of the Sea".

In Ho Chi Minh City, a series of activities celebrating the April 30th and May 1st holidays are also being organized. Dam Sen Cultural Park is one of two locations chosen to host the fireworks display in Ho Chi Minh City. Dam Sen will feature a performance combining pyrotechnics and a water fountain laser system on the large lake. The water fountain laser will project beautiful 3D images of Vietnam and its people. Exhibitions commemorating the 43rd anniversary of national reunification and the city's achievements will be held on Nguyen Hue pedestrian street, Dong Khoi street, and the Labor Culture Palace.

In Da Nang, on April 30th, the entire city witnessed a series of vibrant activities, including street dances, street music performances, and street magic shows along both banks of the Han River. Particularly noteworthy were the art program commemorating the Liberation of the South, the reunification of the country, and International Labor Day at APEC Park, and a comprehensive performance at the landscaped area and park on the north bank of the Tran Thi Ly Bridge.

Crack down on overcharging tourists.

With a series of exciting events taking place across the country, localities have intensified inspections, ensured safety, and especially implemented solutions to curb the practice of overcharging tourists.

As a locality attracting a large number of tourists during this holiday season, Ms. Vuong Thi Hai Yen, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Thanh Hoa province, said that the Department has intensified inspections in Sam Son, Hai Tien, and Hai Hoa. The Department has reminded localities to ensure environmental hygiene, security and order, traffic safety, and prepare for rescue operations. Safety warning signs and hotlines have been installed at most beaches and crowded areas.

In Quang Nam province, the provincial authorities have publicized hotlines for tourist destinations, and the provincial tourism promotion center, in coordination with relevant agencies, is committed to handling complaints from tourists. The People's Committee of Hoi An city also requires businesses to clearly display prices to prevent soliciting and price gouging that could negatively impact the tourist destination.

In Da Nang alone, there were up to 600 domestic and international flights during the holiday period. To cope with the overwhelming number of tourists, the Da Nang Department of Tourism continuously organized inspections of accommodation facilities, tourist areas and attractions, boats, train stations, restaurants, etc., to ensure safety and stable service prices.

In Mui Ne (Phan Thiet, Binh Thuan), the local authorities have even set up three certified weighing stations at the seafood market, helping tourists avoid being cheated or overcharged when buying seafood.

Previously, on April 25th, the Prime Minister requested the People's Committees of provinces and cities to ensure security and safety in tourism activities during the holiday period, ensuring hygiene, environmental protection, food safety, and strictly handling violations; at the same time, inspecting and monitoring to prevent illegal activities in tourism, such as failure to display prices, fraud, profiteering, and harassment of tourists during peak season.
