On the day of the trip, the group members arrived at Dadaocheng Old Town. On this journey, we will embark on an adventure with travel blogger Tam Bui and other members to learn about the ancient architecture, traditional people, and old-fashioned cuisine of Taiwan's old town.
Dadaocheng Old Town - a destination for lovers of traditional tea and textiles.
Dadaocheng is located in the Datong District of Taipei, Taiwan. It is one of the oldest areas in Taipei and is known for its prominent products such as Chinese medicinal herbs, incense, fabrics, traditional Chinese medicine, and pottery. The neighborhood has many traditional tea houses and fabric shops. Many of its goods are exported and have high commercial value.

Besides renovated shops specializing in vintage items, visitors will find a number of creative spaces and design shops selling modern products, housed in historic buildings. Art Yard 1 is a great place to start exploring, with bookstores, textile design shops, and much more. Wandering down Dadaocheng Street, you'll find pottery shops, small clothing stores, and countless craft workshops.
Dadaocheng boasts beautiful Baroque architecture with traditional low-rise Taiwanese houses. Whether it's historical buildings, traditional folk customs, tea shops, fabric shops, traditional medicine shops, or local delicacies, traces of history can be found everywhere.
The streets are bustling in the old town of Dadaocheng.
For those seeking more upscale experiences, the Dahzi area is the place to visit. Coffee shops, confectionery stores, and food markets are nestled within the historic shopping district, alongside newer establishments such as the Man Mano cheese factory and the Nordic Mikkeller craft brewery.
The markets in Dadaocheng have preserved their culture despite the many changes of the times.
In particular, there's no shortage of dining and entertainment options, mostly located along the main street in Dadaocheng. From traditional Taiwanese noodles and rice dishes to fried chicken and thick squid soup, Dadaocheng is definitely a destination visitors should check out for a delicious meal.
Additionally, you'll find plenty of tea houses, traditional medicine shops, temples of all sizes, and the area's most striking feature is its Japanese colonial-era buildings (some houses and shops date back to the Qing Dynasty).
