Hanoi in autumn is always charming with its colorful flowers and cool atmosphere. This autumn, the people of the capital have a new, romantic destination – the field of yellow chrysanthemums at the foot of Long Bien Bridge. The Red River alluvial plain, once flooded with garbage and debris, has now been transformed into a lush green space with the vibrant yellow of chrysanthemums, attracting hundreds of visitors to take photos and relax.
Starting from a desolate wasteland
The alluvial plain of the Red River in Phuc Xa ward, Ba Dinh district, Hanoi, was once a frequent dumping ground for waste and heavily affected by flooding, especially during the recent Typhoon Yagi. The land was muddy, waterlogged, and showed no signs of greenery. However, with the determination and efforts of the Ba Dinh district government and local organizations, this area has been cleaned up, renovated, and transformed into a vibrant field of yellow chrysanthemums, giving the area a fresh new look.

On October 30th, the People's Committee of Ba Dinh District held the launch ceremony for the "Phuc Xa - Ba Dinh Flower Wharf" project. The project was implemented with the participation of hundreds of volunteers from the Fatherland Front, the Veterans Association, the District Youth Union, and especially the Ba Dinh District Women's Union. These forces cleared nearly 100 shacks and livestock pens, leveled nearly 10 hectares of land, and cut down approximately 5,000 weeds. The government and various organizations cleaned up the entire area, creating a large, fertile space for planting.
A blend of nature and history
Long Bien Bridge, a historical symbol of Hanoi, now has an added highlight: a vibrant field of yellow chrysanthemums. Yellow chrysanthemums, with their warm color, symbolize resilience and hope. The image of the flower field beneath the ancient bridge creates a stunning picture where modernity and tradition intertwine, attracting numerous visitors.
Adding a splash of yellow against the sky.
This flower planting project is not only a beautiful landscape but also symbolizes a green and clean Hanoi. The Ba Dinh District Women's Union played a key role in planting and caring for the flower field. Members of the union shared that this was their third attempt to plant flowers in this area, as the previous two attempts were flooded. Ms. Bui Thi Hong Van, representative of the Phuc Xa Ward Women's Union, said: "From an area overflowing with garbage, we have transformed it into a green, clean, and beautiful space thanks to the collective efforts of the community."

Just over a month ago, the land submerged in a vast sea of water has now been transformed into a vibrant field of flowers.
The members of the association spent hours plowing, planting flowers, and tending to each flowerbed to create the beautiful scenery we see today. Every morning, the members take turns watering and caring for each flower bed, maintaining a clean and fresh environment for the area. They not only create a relaxing space for the community but also contribute to raising awareness about environmental protection, encouraging everyone to work together to clean up their living environment.
A new "check-in" spot for young people.
The vibrant yellow chrysanthemum field quickly went viral on social media, attracting many young people and photography enthusiasts. Every day, from early morning, dozens of people come to capture the beautiful moments of Hanoi's autumn. They pose amidst the bright yellow flower clusters, with the Long Bien Bridge as a backdrop, creating artistic and poetic photographs.

Nguyen Linh, a student in Hanoi, shared: “I didn’t think there could be such a beautiful and peaceful place in the heart of the city. The flower field not only provides fresh air but also helps me relax and relieve stress after hours of studying.” The vibrant yellow of the chrysanthemums combined with the ancient scenery of Long Bien Bridge has captivated everyone who comes here, making it an unmissable destination this autumn.
The future of tourism development along the Red River.
The "Phuc Xa Flower Wharf" project aims not only to create a beautiful landscape but also to promote sustainable tourism development in Hanoi. According to representatives of the Ba Dinh District People's Committee, this is the beginning of a series of tourism development projects along the Red River. The area in the middle of the Red River is currently planned for the construction of green spaces to attract tourists and generate economic income for local residents.
Thanks to the fertile soil, the thriving yellow butterfly daisies have completely transformed the landscape of the barren land.

Taking advantage of its large area, Phuc Xa ward has planned to utilize the land during the nine months without flooding to plant flowers, improve the landscape, and develop more flower varieties suitable for each season. This not only creates a beautiful green space but also helps improve the spiritual life of the people and contributes to promoting tourism in the capital.
The field of yellow chrysanthemums at the foot of Long Bien Bridge is a testament to the power of community and love for Hanoi. From a deserted plot of land overflowing with garbage, it has now become a clean, green space, a destination for countless locals and tourists. This project not only contributes to beautifying the urban landscape but also raises public awareness about environmental protection and encourages a green, happy lifestyle.
The site is still undergoing renovation.
