On the morning of July 9, the leader of the People's Committee of Son Tra Ward (Da Nang City) confirmed information about a serious paragliding accident, which caused the death of a male tourist on Son Tra Peninsula on the evening of July 8. The victim was identified as Mr. Hoang Quoc T. (born in 1989, from Hung Yen, temporarily residing in Ho Chi Minh City).
Immediately after this tragic incident, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Da Nang City immediately stopped all paragliding activities on Son Tra Peninsula to conduct inspections and review safety work. At the same time, the Department is also actively supporting the victim's family in completing related legal procedures.
The Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Da Nang city confirmed that a tourist died while paragliding on Son Tra peninsula on the evening of July 8.
Regarding the incident, the Fire Prevention, Fire Fighting and Rescue Police Department (Da Nang City Police) informed that at 5:45 p.m. on July 8, the unit received a report of a tourist having an accident while paragliding on Son Tra Peninsula. Immediately, a rescue vehicle and 7 officers and soldiers were dispatched to the scene to carry out the search.
After the incident, the Department stopped paragliding activities for inspection and actively supported the victim's family in completing related procedures.
The rescue force has closely coordinated with Son Tra Border Guard Station, Son Tra Ward People's Committee's Civil Defense, Ward Police, and the Management Board of Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang City's beaches to urgently search for the victims.
At 7:50 p.m. the same day, after many hours of effort, the authorities found the victim Hoang Quoc T. in a deep ravine near the foot of the mountain. However, unfortunately, Mr. T. had died before that.

Paragliding in Son Tra Peninsula has been allowed by the People's Committee of Da Nang City to operate on a pilot basis since June 2023.
It is known that paragliding activities in Son Tra peninsula have been allowed to operate on a pilot basis by the People's Committee of Da Nang City from June 2023. By May 2024, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism also announced a list of 5 units that meet the safety measures prescribed for non-motorized paragliding service business activities at the paragliding site in Son Tra peninsula.
Currently, the authorities are continuing to investigate to clarify the exact cause of the accident, including a thorough inspection of the equipment, operating procedures and compliance with safety regulations of the service provider. The incident once again sounded the alarm about safety in adventure sports and the responsibility of tourism service operators.
