The Chairman of Tuy Hoa City was "surprised" when Nghinh Phong Tower Square received an award from the WTA.

On the morning of December 22nd, the People's Committee of Tuy Hoa City (Phu Yen province) held a press conference to provide information about the two international awards won by the Nghinh Phong Tower Square project (Tuy Hoa City) and the city's programs to celebrate the Year of the Dragon.

According to information presented at the press conference, a representative of the Tuy Hoa City People's Committee stated that the Nghinh Phong Tower Square was awarded the Asian Urban Landscape Award (ATA) 2023, at a ceremony held in South Korea in November 2023.

Subsequently, at the end of November 2023, in Dubai (United Arab Emirates), the World Travel Awards (WTA) presented the World's Leading City Monument 2023 award to the Nghinh Phong Tower Square.

At the press conference, journalists questioned why the organizers of the World's Leading City Monument 2023 award did not send an invitation to representatives from Tuy Hoa or Phu Yen province to receive the award, while the Vietnam Golf Association sent a notification about this award for Nghinh Phong Tower Square? Which agency was responsible for preparing the nomination dossier for the aforementioned award?

In response, Mr. Luong Thao Nguyen, head of the Culture and Information Department of Tuy Hoa City, said that in 2022, the president of the WTA visited and worked in Phu Yen and had discussions with the Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism about proposing the Nghinh Phong Tower Square for nomination in the WTA categories.

"The Vietnam Tourism Association and the Vietnam Golf Association have sent a letter to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Phu Yen province regarding the Nghinh Phong Tower being awarded this WTA prize," Mr. Nguyen said.

In further discussion, Mr. Cao Dinh Huy, Chairman of the Tuy Hoa City People's Committee, said that he himself was very surprised by the WTA award for Nghinh Phong Tower Square because this award was voted on directly on the organization's website.

"The 2023 WTA Award is an online voting award and originated from the fact that the Nghinh Phong Tower Square had previously received an ATA award. We made arrangements but couldn't make it in time, as we only found out about winning this award three days beforehand, but another member accepted the award on our behalf."
