The Japanese Bridge, a symbol of Hoi An ancient town, has been restored after more than 5 months and is expected to open to visitors in early August 2024.

The project to restore the Japanese Bridge was approved by the People's Committee of Hoi An City on December 28, 2022, with a budget of over 20 billion VND. Prior to this, the monument had undergone seven restorations. By 2022, the Japanese Bridge had seriously deteriorated, with cracks and subsidence in the bridge abutments and piers; many columns and beams were damaged. The restoration process lasted more than a year longer than initially planned due to numerous controversies regarding the bridge's "curved or straight" shape and related architectural features. The Hoi An Cultural Heritage Conservation Management Center had to temporarily halt the restoration work for thorough research.
