At 1:16 p.m. on July 20, tourist canoe number QNa-1296 of Dung Hieu Tourism Service Limited Liability Company, stationed at Phuoc Hai block, Cua Dai ward, Hoi An city, was taking passengers to swim in the Hon Tai area, Cu Lao Cham island when it took on water and sank.
At the time of the sinking, there were 23 people on board the canoe, including captain Le Tien Len (38 years old), deputy captain Truong Minh Dung (49 years old), sailor Nguyen Long (34 years old) and 20 passengers.
Upon receiving the news, Cu Lao Cham Border Guard Station mobilized 7 officers and soldiers to coordinate with 2 canoes of businesses to participate in the rescue. Thanks to the promptness of Cu Lao Cham Border Guard, as well as the active participation of businesses, at about 13:55 on the same day, the crew and passengers on the tourist canoe Qna - 1296 were brought safely to shore.

Currently, authorities are coordinating to salvage the tourist canoe Qna - 1296 and investigate to clarify the cause.
At the end of February 2022, a tourist canoe of Phuong Dong Tourism Company Limited carried 39 people from Cu Lao Cham to Cua Dai. When it was about 2 km from the shore, it suddenly sank, killing 17 people, and 22 people were fortunately rescued.
Currently the cause of the ship sinking is still being urgently investigated by authorities.
