According to the latest news, from July 29, 2024, Phu Quoc Express Joint Stock Company announced that it will stop operating the Ho Chi Minh City - Con Dao route until further notice.
The reason for the suspension of the Ho Chi Minh City - Con Dao route is due to ineffective operation for many different reasons. Specifically, because the Saigon - Hiep Phuoc port is far from the center, to get to the port, passengers will have to take a shuttle bus or travel there themselves, which takes a lot of time. The exploitation of this traffic route is also affected by the weather and many other factors, so many problems have arisen during the operation. Because of the above difficulties as well as high ticket prices, this train route is rarely chosen by passengers.
Previously, on May 13, the high-speed ferry route from Ho Chi Minh City to Con Dao officially opened with ticket prices ranging from VND615,000 to VND1.1 million per trip.

This is the first waterway passenger transport route from Ho Chi Minh City directly to Con Dao, providing the city's residents with more travel options. During the time the Ho Chi Minh City - Con Dao route stops operating, the Thang Long ship with a capacity of more than 1,000 seats will serve on the Vung Tau - Con Dao route. The operator will also consider increasing the frequency of this route to meet the needs of tourists.
Phu Quoc Expressway Joint Stock Company shared that the operation of the route has not achieved the desired results. The company has temporarily suspended the operation of the expressway to consider and find a suitable solution for this route. After having a suitable solution, the unit will submit it to the competent authority for consideration and arrangement to resume operation of the Ho Chi Minh City - Con Dao route.
The news of the temporary suspension of the Ho Chi Minh City - Con Dao high-speed ferry is a pity for tourists and the tourism industry in Con Dao. In the coming time, hopefully useful solutions will be implemented to bring this high-speed ferry route back into operation and effectively, promoting the tourism industry in Con Dao.
